High Ping Tanking - Am I wasting my time?

Aiatar Strategy

If you have low-level white gear, and are only level 32, this guy can be a problem. Aiatar has three abilities to watch out for:
◾“Frontal Line Breath” – This is a hard hitting skill that damages all targets in a line. While the AoE isn’t huge, the time given to dodge it is very small. If you haven’t bound strafe on your keyboard – now is the time.

Being in Australia I often have 300 ping.
With decent gear and level 34 I am having real trouble dodging this attack and unless the healer is very well geared it just doesn't succeed.

Please let me know, do higher level instances rely heavily on ping also, because if so then I may as well roll a dps instead

Yes even more so. You will get better ping moving to a Japanese server.

I usually tank him directly under his front legs, then when Dragon Breath comes along you just take like 1 or 2 steps forward to be "behind" him and you wont get hit. I suppose with your ping you'll still need to be quick with those couple steps though lol

To the title question.. There is plenty of stuff you can tank with high ping. It might not be the hardest stuff, but that's just a fact of geography. Don't give up.

there are other things you can do.. Leatrix Latency Fix helped me..

and you have to learn to manually update your position.. when you leave a red area of GTFO press a button, doesnt matter what it does, say fast blade for instance but you are too far away.. as long as you press something that causes your character to try to do something it is telling the game "yo, i am here.. not over there man" and the game is like "sweet, for a second there i thought you were stupid and just standing in the aoe" you shouldnt have to do it but with a .3 update delay + your ping it puts you to half a second or more. and this 100% works for me btw, i used to die to titans mechanics all the time and blame my lag and latency now i never get hit.

also DO NOT JUMP OUT OF AOE this is not COD and too many people think it is.. you are telling the game "yo, i am where my feet left the ground" and the game is like "trolololol nub thought so"

Yeh I transferred and completed this instance with minimal hits from that last boss and it felt really good. I'm back in the game

Keep your Gil in your retainer if possible, don't want you to get market board scammed from hacks from RMT. I heard Tonberry is/was severely affected by this.
