For thr HQ in FFXI, I find it strange...
You got a piece of meat, when HQ you get a few more pieces. That does not make sense.

Doesn't make sense that you can fail 4 swings in a row on a tree/rock with 90% success rate either but it's FFXIV so it would make perfect sense.

Actually, it can make perfect sense. Some basic probability calculations follow:
Chance to miss = 10% = 0.1
Chance to miss 4 times in a row = 0.1*0.1*0.1*0.1 = 0.0001 = 0.01%
From your profile, you have probably swung many thousand times by now, so you should have seen a few 4x misses in a row. More if you've been unlucky.

It makes sense if the HQ makes you more efficient in your use of the meat. I know I cut off some parts of certain meat occasionally when I am cooking. If you are a good enough cook, you could probably make use of those parts.
ExactlyI often fillet whole fishes and I can tell you when I did this at first, I wasted quite some meat. With experience you know how to optimize your cutting pattern. And yes, it would be great to get extra quantities of materials/goods when we HQ them.
It does, a bad cook cuts off and waste some of the meat to make it look perfect.
a Good cook uses all of the meat they are giving and make it look prefect and has some meat left over to make more.
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
