OP, I think very few people here have actually taken the time to understand what you're saying, sadly. Everyone's talking about game mechanics and systems and is stuck arguing about the pertinence of your examples. No one seems to even have read the

    That's what we dream for a MMORPG,for decades:a freedom,life-like,magical, fantasy virtual world,memorable adventures.
    part.

[Which is something only a very specific group of people wants]

You really pick bad examples for what you want ffxiv to be it's pretty much just like dot hack and SAO. SAO you grind doing quest and exp on mobs to level up so you could do floor 1-100 the goal is to get to floor 100 and win the game.
Is that all that SAO was? Then how come a lot of the people who survived the whole ordeal started playing it again?
SAO, per its creator's words, was a world he had been dreaming of since he was a child. A world to be explored and lived in. A world those people grew attached to.

I remember people saying that about Vanguard, not so much about pvp, but how it was "OMG everything we ever wanted!!1!". People calling for a return to "old school" mmo design, and all that. Sure took the world by storm eh? Oh, right (from wikipedia):

"The game initially sold around 242,000 copies, while the number of active subscriptions (those who play longer than the free month included when buying the game) was estimated to be around 130,000, to drop in the next months to about 40,000"

While I'm not going to claim ESO is going to be the best game ever (I'm actually staying here.) to be fair it's not trying to be "old school" but to do something new in the world of mmo's in many regards. I applaud them for that but those that claim it will fail or do well even are jumping the gun quite a bit. That being said, I think Vanguard was more evidence that the old school mmo design doesn't work anymore.

So what? Almost every MMO has failed (to an extent) and is bound to fail.
Predicting a MMO failure is like predicting rain in november... too easy.
Objectively discussing the reasons of said failures would be at least entertaining.

As far as i know when vanguard came out it wasnt ready (like almost every other MMO out there), i know people that played it and swear it WAS a great game but it was not finished, and a MMO needs to be playable from day1 to survive.

FUCK YES I was seriously prepared to scroll down this thread thinking it'll be all about sao. The class system in it is very interesting.
It's my favorite anime this season. I'd love to play a mmo like that.

How so? Most people consider failure "Not beating wow." or "Having far more than 500,000 players." which isn't a failure. It's unrealistic expectations. There's quite a few mmo's that have done well and haven't "Failed."

    I kinda agree.
But every MMO outside of two or three of them "failed to catch me".
If it doesnt last for more than one year i consider it a failure, if it starts P2P and goes F2P i consider it a failure, but then again im very old school.

While I don't have anything against the mini games etc, I don't want that to be ALL we have besides dungeons and raiding. I would love for SE to take some of the elements from XI (not all!) that are still working for XI today that keeps people suscribing and merge that ideology into XIV. I love XIV and I hope to spend a lot of time in Hydaelan (sp) as i did in Vanadiel, but I worry that I will start to become bored with this way too soon. I know people say "This isn't XI, yap yap!", but I among many others feel that XI left such a strong impression on us that we looked for hints of it in the next FF MMO (besides races). Do I want XIV to be XI? No but I would like some of the ideas used in XI brought to XIV. I personally am looking forward to what Yoshi and the team brings in the expansions. I hope to see larger zone areas with lots of scenery. That was a big thing for me in XI when expansions came out, EXPLORE and SIGHTSEE!

    I actually like the Idea.
I wish there was an mmorpg mixed of .hack/SAO/Yureka/Half Prince/Log Horizon ._.
I also like the "old school" game Ragnarok Online, that had nice stuff, that is never rly seen again cuz everything copies from WoW

Just wanted to say ~ i dont blame SE or so tho x:

PS: in RO there were no instanced dungeons how you know it, first ever instaced stuff i saw was in aion, so it was really weird for me that time
