What do you guys think of something like teleportation crystals? Instead of just paying everytime you want to teleport, you use a teleportation crystal (which would be hard to come by). Then people wouldn't be so inclined to do it and almost feel like they have to do the hard traveling.

This said I am hopeful for the future. I have faith that over time maps will be added and it'll get a little bigger

The world is small not because of the zone size, but because of the missing connections.

    1. Compare maps from V1 to ARR. We jump from Revenants Toll to Dragonhead more or less. In V1 there was an entire southern part of Coerthas to go through before Dragonhead.

    2. Missing the Outlands zones, the true beastmen capitals and regions, Pagl'than, Xelphatol, etc. Granted we didn't have these in V1. However its really strange SE would push us away from Strongholds, that was a happening all the time party event in version 1.

    3. Missing 2 citystates and 1 seized citystate. Granted these weren't in V1 either.

The real problem I have is being a legacy member I expected SE to churn out content a lot faster. At least that is how the original interviews led us to believe. Also I expected some of the above missing areas at ARR release.

I am really hoping an expansion vastly expands the map. Things are looking pretty boring atm if you ask me.

ya i feel you but its ok for a reboot it might grow in time. as stated earlier the FFXI world was extermly vast and would take you 10+ minuets sometimes to run across 1 zone

Yeah the world is increadably small. While i like housing -pvp they really have much BIGGER issues that they should be working on .

I kind of wish the world was bigger, though the world feels much, MUCH bigger than in SWTOR. However, I kinda miss that sandbox-y type feeling from WoW.

Yes FFXI wasn't that big either but come on guys. What other product can come out now with shorting comings that it had 10 years ago and be acceptable? I just do not get this mentality. "Games can be crappy because they were crappy 10 years ago". Just drives me crazy. I understand older games were different but there is a reason we have new technology and engines. Games are suppose to get better with more technology, not be on par with 10 year old games or worse in some cases. Just saying.

Compare FFXIV:ARR launch with FFXI launch. XIV is larger.

The zones in game are unacceptably, ridiculously small. They're smaller than any other game I can think of at the moment off the top of my head. Not just by a little. By a massive margin. For example, in one of the more polarized examples in terms of size, the Shire (a single, non-instanced zone) in the Lord of the Rings Online is as large as the entire Shroud + Gridania City + Coerthas. One non-instanced zone in LotRO, eight instanced zones in FFXIV.

Could you please explain, what technology and engines are you talking about exactly? There is a lot of manual drawing work in creation of these locations, and I don't think, that methods of 3D modelling are drastically changed in these 10 years. And I think that this manual work is the main limitation factor.
