Sometimes I think they should focus on one project at a time, but if they are confident and have the resources, then good for them.

Pretty stupid move when they can't even charge players for FFXIV because its in such poor shape. WTF

SE is a massive development studio.
They only have a group of people working on 1 project at a time... it is just multiple groups.
The projects they have running currently do not effect the FFXIV team at all.
Having 100 people on FFXIV would get the same amount done as having 1000... simply because only so much can be worked on at one time. Put too many people on a team half of them will twiddle their thumbs.

Wow, i did not see this coming. If it is not a FF game then Square are being very brave and if it is a FF game it could hurt FF XIV. It will probably be something completely different, it may not even be their own game but rather a game they are publishing.

I honestly expect the mmos SE are releasing to be more stuff like this

It's not like every game produced nowadays isn't pretty much an MMO, anyways. Wouldn't you call Diablo II/III an MMO? Or say Demon Souls? Or heck, even Black Ops? There isn't much of a line anymore between "video game" and "MMO".

Diablo II is a Action RPG with a Multiplayer Function but its limited to 8 players (last I remember)
I haven't heard anything about Diablo III's Multiplayer yet except that it most likely will cost money on battle.net to play.
Demon Souls is considered a Co-op/PVP not really a MMO Again I think your limited to about 8 players max for co-op and 2 for pvp.
Black Ops is again just a PVP Multiplayer. I don't consider it a MMO unless its a persistent world and atleast 1000 players can share the same server.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

People really need to get off this kick that "multiplayer capable = MMORPG".
Diablo II, Demon's Souls and Black Ops are as much MMORPGs as Quake 3 Arena is a RPG.
Massively Multiplayer means, and has always meant an online game supporting thousands of players sharing the same virtual space in a persistent online world.
On Blizzard's site, Diablo, Diablo II and even Diablo III are categorized as Action RPGs. They are single player games that have an optional multiplayer component.
World of Warcraft, however, is categorized as a MMORPG on their site.
If anything, Neverwinter Nights would be closer to a MMO than Diablo II since a well configured persistent server can support up to 64+ players logged in at the same time, sharing the same world space. However, even Neverwinter Nights isn't a MMORPG. It's still a single player RPG with an optional online multiplayer component.
It's like an epidemic lately, people calling anything with any kind of multiplayer a "MMORPG".
I overheard someone in GameStop earlier asking one of the employees what the release date was for Blizzard's new MMORPG, Diablo III. I just shook my head.
I'm guessing that the new MMO won't be directly competing with the other 2 (depending on how many years FFXI will be kept online).
