Uhhh... Is the OP thinking they are doing maint just for fun and have no valid reasons for doing it? SE just likes to pay it's programmers to fart around and take down the servers just for the hell of it? Interesting.
Logically: Servers being down = less money the company could be making. Also time spent implementing these updates and bug fixes. Pretty sure they are doing maintenance for a reason other than just to make everyone upset for funsies.
No one likes maint. But it's ok. Keep calm. The world isn't ending. And if it is, make sure you have your towel.
It is a GOOD thing they are taking such good care of the servers and the game, i have rarely seen a MMO with such good support and service, and they are keeping everything running very well it IS a complex and huge game technically with all of the various functions that cross connect. i am amazed at how well it is all working ..so just relax and enjoy the time we have in the game and enjoy our lives out of it when we are out of it. Both are equally important.have a nice day....

And in how much time this maintenance supposedly ends?
While I do think that they chose a fairly good time to perform maintenance on the servers (10pm-1am and that general time is when I would think most NA players are offline - I know I am, but I'm on the east coast), it would be nice if the maintenance wasn't so frequent. I'm not complaining because I'm assuming the maintenance only makes the game experience better for me, but in the case of people like you who tend to rely on that time to play the game, I can imagine how it negatively affects your attitude towards this game. And that's not helping you or anybody.
They do maintenance when they need it. it has never affected myself, others maybe not so lucky.
Yes, because letting a holiday extend until scheduled maintenance on Tuesday would've been so detrimental to this game's health. /sarcasm off
Reading the patchnotes so far for every "emergency maintenance" that's occurred I have seen NOTHING listed as a fix that was fixing anything remotely "game-breaking" and couldn't have waited until the next weekly maintenance.
If it were your game time being interrupted every other day you wouldn't be very happy about it. I'm not paying $15 a month to not be able to play for 3 nights of a 7 day week.
Sure, the servers are only down 3 hours at most, but those 3 hours happen to be when the majority of my FC are logging into the game for the first time of the day. The constant UNNECCESSARY server downtimes will ultimately be why we stop paying Squeenix. They could be doing this more intelligently. There is no doubt about that.
Reduce downtimes to once a week, or reduce your player base to only people who work dayshift.
Although I'm sure they chose their normal maintenance time to be a low-traffic period when it would affect the fewest players, when they need to do maintenance several times in a row like this, they should vary the times enough so that it's not affecting the same few players each time.
That and they should be looking at their rules for what constitutes an "emergency" for emergency maintenance. Maybe these really were for important issues, but were they all so urgent that they couldn't have combined the fixes into a single maintenance period? Of course, we as players will probably never know exactly what they were for, but I hope the SE people who decide when to take the servers down are looking at more than just one issue at a time and whether it's important. They need to look into what other important issues are going on at the same time and whether they can be fixed at the same time, so as to minimize server downtime.
Maintenance should be occurring often atm as it should be. Emergency maintenance usually deals with bugs/dups/hacks etc and so they will never be posted as to what is fixed because people will read those patch notes and try other methods to reproduce those occurrences.
If you are indeed an older gamer, this stuff should be common knowledge.
Or we could go back to old school MMOs and just have the game hack/duped/bugged out the door and have no way to recover the game but to reset you 2 months back.
