He means screen clutter in a way that he means how there are always summons out when theres a Summoner, Arcanist, or Scholar nearby. One of the reasons the dev's sized down the summons for this game was due to clutter issues.
Also in XI; weapon was not restricted to class. Dark Knights could use scythes and greatswords. It was greatly dependent on their set ups, but they could use both.

Its basically like Comparing Monk and Dragoon, its Similar but yet so different.

But what do you think this needs to be even more different?

Then answer me this.. why does it have to have summoner in the name? or an Evoker? WHY does it have to summon monsters to do things for them? It seems like you fancy pet classes but throwing another summoning class out there isn't the way to do it. And making them a tank specific type of class/job when they summoner pets of all different varieties goes against current duty finder standards. You can't have a Summoner que as a healer; And Scholars can't que as DPS.

Making it to where the summoner controls the summons moves won't help in this situation as much as you think it would. XI Summoners could control their summons more so than XIV summoners. But they were still just a DPS/Buff/Healer pet class.

Edit: I also fail to see how the mechanics are different.

There's no espers in this game - summons are called Primals and the lore of the game has it that not only are they the gods of the beastmen, it takes an enormous amount of aether to summon - the beastmen requires a whole team of summoners to summon a Primal.

This is why SMN got the mini-summons, it's not only a gameplay concession (to prevent server instability with five hundred SMNs all with their summons out on screen at once), it's a lore-based one as well - you're only summoning the essence of a Primal.

Be thankful you have SMN in the game in the first place - Yoshi wasn't even going to have the job at all originally, (there was only going to be Free Company summoning in FATEs) and only introduced it due to the constant demands of players.

But of course, everyone wants to do their best FFX/XII impersonations by having a huge summon out that does virtually nothing but clutter up the screen half the time, which is exactly why it is not possible in FFXIV.

The OP didn't draw anything. The staves and the image of Braska are from X, the elemental sprites are from XI, the espers are from XII, and the last image is just Adrammelech (XII) and some XIV concept art.

Yeah but Pet classes can have bonuses for keeping the pet un-summoned.. There can be a trait that when the Pet is Un-summoned for x amount of time it receives a buff next time its summoned for a duration.

Also there should be an option that you can toggle pets ON/OFF in city states and Sanctuaries.

Size down is the wrong way of doing things, if there are other ways.

Also in XI; weapon was not restricted to class. Dark Knights could use scythes and greatswords. It was greatly dependent on their set ups, but they could use both.
Yes but in truth all jobs had main weapons as well as sub weapons. You can tell their main weapon by the mythical weapon they got.

So yes Dark Knight = Scythe, While Rune Fencer = Great Sword.

Then answer me this.. why does it have to have summoner in the name? or an Evoker?
Why Not? The current Summoner we have is a different kind of Summoner, Similar to how Dark Knight is a different kind of Knight.

WHY does it have to summon monsters to do things for them?
Its a pet class, and pet classes should come in different playstyles,,,, Some DOW, and Some DOM.

It seems like you fancy pet classes but throwing another summoning class out there isn't the way to do it.
I dont see why not, the game needs more mages.

And making them a tank specific type of class/job when they summoner pets of all different varieties goes against current duty finder standards. You can't have a Summoner que as a healer; And Scholars can't que as DPS.
Summoner is a DPS, but can very well Tank with Titan in a Party. Ive cleared AK with me being a Tank with Titan, a BRD and a WHM while The 4th player was an afk tank.

My point is High Summoner would be geared toward Tanking, but still having Sub duties like other classes that come in the form of other pets (DPS, Caster etc.).

SCH cant Queue as a DPS but can very well play one with Cleric Stance.

Making it to where the summoner controls the summons moves won't help in this situation as much as you think it would. XI Summoners could control their summons more so than XIV summoners. But they were still just a DPS/Buff/Healer pet class.
Yeah but if in a queue the job is set to tank, so i would need to summon a tank pet. If i queue with a pre made group, i can use a Dps pet if a tank isnt needed.

Edit: I also fail to see how the mechanics are different.

When an Esper is not Summoned it slowly regenerates HP in the astral plane. If the Esper dies, you have to wait for it to fully recover before Summoning it again.

There will be no ability AI for the Espers. Every ability will be micromanaged by the High Summoner while auto attack is going. The command "Sic" will act like a Gambit System for low tier skills so You can set what skills the esper will do or not do while activating the skills you dont want it to do manually.

The pets hold 80% of the abilities learned on the class/job, and the other 20% involve the Esper.

This would be Class/Job that queues as a Tank(This can be possible since we are micromanaging the pets every attack) , but of course there will be pets that are DD, Melee, and Caster etc. Similar to how Summoner is a Dps but also has Titan.
Its 100% reliant on the pet, which to me is different enough. Plus, you would need to care if the pet dies or not or else dead.

I mean i left it Vague enough to allow the creative thinking...

Just make them like Vincent, transform into a beast and go ham. No clutter and you get your cute monsters.

Why would anyone in their right mind play a Summoner if they can play High Summoner?

Why not also have "High Paladin?" It would be just like a tank in a DF group that decides, right before engaging a primal, or in the middle of a dungeon, that they need to "pack a bowl" and insists that everyone else should be getting high too, right before they wipe the party.\
Alternatively, instead of AFKing, the "High Paladin" lvl 50 ability could just comment the entire time about how marijuana is panacea and why everyone should be consuming it all of the time. This ability would also trigger an auto loss at 5% of any boss, just like the DF drug abusers.

Sorry, but when i read High Summoner, all i could think of was the inane pothead speeches i see in DF and the dissatisfaction some feel when their summon does not take up the entire screen. it looks like you put a lot of effort into this, but it still does not make it a good idea. keep trying though, that effort will pay off when you have a viable idea!

The name is a problem. I dont know how i would feel if they added high dragoon. The name inherently suggests superiority.
