I've already said my piece about the topic at-hand, but I just wanted to say... This has always been a terrible defense and a poor justification for errors. By your logic, it's perfectly okay for us to simply behave like neanderthals as long as we're not in school. I'm pretty sure proper grammar is appropriate for any occasion.

You don't simply just stop using it just because you're not in school any more. That's like a convict getting out of jail and telling someone, "Why should I follow the rules? This isn't jail."
