
It does work with it, and marvelously well at that. That's how I 1 shot all of my recipes across my crafts. Get 5-7 stacks from basic synthesis, pop great strides, make sure you have steady hand stack available for Byregots, then kaboom.
The method I've been using is just buff yourself up as much as possible with Inner quiet, Steady hand 2 + Hasty Spam (Use waste not as well for more spam), then on your last touch before you have to go for progress just buff up as much as you can (Innovation, Great Strides ect) then Byregot's.
When I'm levelling up a crafting class I'll normally get mats for 100-150 items for a triple turn in leve and from about lv20 onwards that method within a macro will get me HQ 90+% of the time.
