Tbh, I just spammed through a vast majority of the text and cutscenes. I love the story in single person rpgs, but in games like this one, the story isn't why I play. The story is such a small part of the overall experience that in the long run it won't make or break the game. Once the story is over, it's over and you're on to other things. Sure, they'll add new arcs here and there in future expansions and patches, but again, you'll mostly plow through those too and be on to other exciting things. Could they improve it? Sure. But again, it's such a small part of the overall experience that improvements won't really affect the overall experience much.

Not just Final Fantasy, a lot of RPG games have sidequests that have no direct involvement with the main story but need to be done in order to progress.
At least they are somewhat rewarding in the form of experience points, gil and occasionally a useful item here and there, so I don't really mind fetching some cheese and wine to loosen some tongues.

The first thing you should do when starting this game and getting your chocobo at 20 is go everywhere bind to every aetheryte in the game. Go to every main city and bind to every aetheryte there as well. Then continue the quest and teleport around. It seems expensive but at level 50 it's reletively easy to make money all you have to do is run a dungeon for 4 to 6k gil or craft into some leve's with high quality items.

But yeah there is a lot of running around, but you finish it when you get to 50 then you start the grind!!!.

There's a joke in there somewhere, but I'll refrain this time. :P

The thing I regret the most was not changing the language to "ANYTHING" else, I rather hear the Japanese voice overs.

I swallowed up a whole game with terrible English voice actors.

I wish English dub took stuff seriously like everyone else...

The thing I hate is that the NPCs seem to alternate between "You're THE AWESOME!" and "Eh? Who are you? You're here about the hedges?" And every quest chain seems to go show up, no one knows who you are, do seven miserable tasks to prove that you're a Hero, get the item, go back to the person who sent you, who will send you off on another quest to someplace where no one knows you and you have to do seven tasks to prove you're a hero.

Don't these NPCs ever freakin' talk to each other? I'm the papasmurfing heir to A-Towa-Cant! I do not want to clip your flippin' toenails to show that I'm capable of withstanding the stench of your foots! Just gimmie the freakin' key, and I'll get out of your hair, okay?

I really disliked most of the main story line. It's only good on the last few leves and when the quests involve primals. Other than that I can clearly see that the developers just tried their hardest to fill the gap between the good quests.

One thing that I also noticed was that many quests could be grouped into one. For example there are quests that make you just walk to another part of the city and talk to the NPC - that's it, only to get another quests from said NPC. Why not have those two quests merged together?

Let that number sink in for a second. Even if it was weird, incomplete and cryptic at times I prefer the original story and how it was done (perhaps with some tweaks) back at 1.0

Main story is pretty bad. Maybe there's good thing on it, but there so much filler that overall it sucks. It really sucks.

Main reason that stops me from making a new character to level up another class is have to complete the main story again. I mean... who the hell thought that al that stupid cooking and dancing had any sense on the middle on a theorically "epic quest"? Hard to think how they coud have done it worse......

While it is like it in the offline series - Think for a second..It's just what MMORPGs does these days in terms of quest based progression. They add so much filler trash quests in between the actual story bits that it ends up boring you or throwing you off the flow very quickly.

"Hey, go slay these bosses in these dungeons..after you do that go give my guards some tea, kill 5 coeurls..hmm..oh give my guards some pretzels and pick up my laundry..hmm......oh! kill 3 bee swarms while you at it then you can go back to actually learning about the world's storyline...only to go run errands again after one dungeon for 4 levels worth of filler quests."

In "every final fantasy game" I'm usually on a path for the storyline or diverge into side quests relating to particular (relevant) NPC or the world, never was really told by an NPC they'll give me information on Kefka if I slay 5 goblins (by numerous NPCs in various towns) and bring back 2 ice elemental cores. So while yes they exists in all RPGs, they're never forced onto you and completely detached from the main story or even back story like they are in MMOs.

I admit it's pretty funny at times.

"Oh, it's you! The hero who vanquished Ifrit and Titan! Go fetch my laundry."
