Ummm..................... No MMO servers have QOS set up to make half of the server population unplayable... This would be just as stupid as not fixing the current routing based packet loss issues.

During Peak or Prime Time Hours Time Warner Cable and Any Other Cable Company CAPS yer internet speed. Had it always happen to me they do it to Ease the flow of speed for everyone during those times. this way it doesnt congest there servers for your so called benefit. Make sure no one is Downloading anything before making all assumptions. 9 times out of 10 the internet is lagging on your end whether it be from your video card (unless you exceed the maximum suggested requirements.) your internet might be slowed down due to Viruses from downloads and much more you should do a virus scan. without using mcaffee or norton since they EAT Resources. Also try the program Razr Game Booster which shuts down any and all un needed useless programs that run in the back ground as That could cause you to lag as well.

What your are describing is actually more in line with what happens at the router level, as in all the segments you move through getting to their servers. It is a product of Traffic Shaping--something everyone keeps erroneously calling "P2P Throttling". That is just ONE form of traffic shaping that ALL ISP's employ to try to avoid overloads and flat out failures on their segments.
The server level clamping that SE was employing was denial of access (server is full, try again later)--this is in line with what ntall1 just posted. SE was flat out shutting the gate and not letting anyone in to keep things stable at one point. The more common tactic is to use a queuing system to slow down the stream of connections so the hardware and software can better manage the flow of users.
Thankfully SE finally expanded their queuing to allow more people back in once they revamped their infrastructure to handle more concurrent connections. Remember, they have already ramped it up from around 3100 to around 5000 concurrent connections (last mention I read of the changes).
Which brings up an important point that seems to keep getting overlooked. Keep in mind, they've dramatically increased the population limits on each server now, as well as how many can come through their gates concurrently before queuing them, and it is compounded by the fact that they picked up a lot more people since launch day as well. That means they have increased traffic flow not only to their endpoint, but all points in between you and them--so if things were already flaky at the 9th hop before and it was never addressed... it is potentially even worse now if more people are shooting through that same router in Seattle or Chicago or just outside Montreal. SE can beef up their hardware/software as much as you think they need to (and even beyond that level)... but if TATA is still using outdated, overloaded, flat out insufficient hardware on the segment you are going through--you will still have stability issues until that is corrected.

I'm familiar enough with my own internet trafficking to know whether or not the lag is coming from my side. I also check periodically if lag ever comes up, to see where the source may be coming from. However, I do recall horribly falling into a fit of lagging Garuda Trials, along with my final attempt, which resulted in severe stop and go lag, followed by a sudden dc. Turns out after I had dc'd, whatever was lagging me in the game, went away. So this leads me to believe, that while lag is indeed an issue with this game, it just seems like we have that chance of not even being fully in synch with the server, or fully connected.During Peak or Prime Time Hours Time Warner Cable and Any Other Cable Company CAPS yer internet speed. Personally instead of Spamming the Technical Support area with a useless thread that your not going to atleast take the advice of others and report posts that are trying to be helpful. As I Dont have lag when I Play the game and Im on UVerse Internet. Enjoy leaving the game....

Long time member of the lag brigade here..... I'm gertting the 90k junk alot now too. I can be in market and not be able craft with macros, go to a different city with just as many people running around and no lag at all. It's random and annoying. I stopped leveling my cnj just before 30 because I don't want to get the grief in duty finder because of lag. All I've been doing is gather and craft but it's slowly grinding on me to not even want to play anymore and I love this game. I could just chew nails about this garbage. I have a gaming comp I built myself and the only part of it that isn't new this year is the video card and it was purchased last fall. mmo player for over ten years and a cable internet user for longer than that, NEVER had this much lag that couldn't be fixed with an upgrade of some kind. I've jumped through so many hoops to figure this crap out I feel like I should be getting a paycheck from sqeenix.... Wish I hadn't payed for 90 days already. From what I've read on these forums about this subject the SUBSCRIBERS have done more work trying to figure it out than sqeex. At least thats all I can figure because of the MAJOR lack in responses to this ongoing and growing issue. I can hop on any of the other mmo's I play right now with zero issues.
You seem mad.Personally instead of Spamming the Technical Support area with a useless thread that your not going to atleast take the advice of others and report posts that are trying to be helpful. As I Dont have lag when I Play the game and Im on UVerse Internet. Enjoy leaving the game....
Both the forums and the tickets are already being abused I'm sure (which both will always contribute to the bigger cause, as both are a source of information to the server as to what the issue may be and how to fix it). So attacking a thread, just because it's not cluttering onto what I'm sure is already a mountain of tickets, is kind of depressing of you.

I think with such low upload, you need to improve it a bit. Mine isn't amazing by any stretch, but i do not lag period. As for this whole argument about lag and such.. I would just switch providers. 1MB upload is awful, I am personally upset that mine is only 7.12MB
In no way should the player be lagging with that setup to begin with. I have a little less upload than yours, and my internet has been perfect all of the time. Your expectations of good internet is a little over the top there. xD;
Added - I do agree that 1MB is pretty low though. Having rode on my parent's internet in the past, where the upload was even less than that of, it was a nightmare to do anything.
It may be, but I am willing to pay out the ass for good internet, since everything i use is over the internet. TV included.In no way should the player be lagging with that setup to begin with. Edit: My provider advertised 15mbps, so yes.. i will be upset x3
