Please stop the "region locked" events please...

Don't go down that disgusting region locking path, where only NA can do certain events and EU can do certain events.

Everyone should be equal... every paying customer should be allowed to enter every event you run, especially if the event itself has no physical reward and specifically in-game only.

You do understand that it's not Square's fault?? There are multiple, and various international laws that they have to observe when running contests of any kind. It's highly unlikely that they are able to either a) honor all of these laws equally with the same contest, or b) come up with multiple contests so that each possible country in which their customers live have a separate one.

It's the law that stops them, even if the rewards are only digital goods each area has it's own legislation they need to adhere with.

It's hardly "law" reasons, if that was the case then EU wouldn't even have an event... they could have made them both the same exact event.

Does not the fact that there are SEPARATE contests for both mean that laws are different?

Here, a quote from the official rules thread:

"The Contest is only open to existing holders of an active FINAL FANTASY XIV service account (“Service Account”) on 20 October, 2013 10:00 a.m. (GMT) who are resident in a PAL Territory Country*. Contestants who are residents of France or Spain should refer to the Additional Specific Provisions under these Rules relevant to their country of residence."

Look at that, there are even separate provisions for France and Spain. Gee, I wonder why that would be the case? Could it be that the laws in each location differ, so there have to be different rules for each? Wow, I've never thought of that before.

EDIT: Wait! Even in the official rules, the separate section for France cites something, what could it be?

Contestants resident in FRANCE:
In accordance with the 6th January 1978 data protection and freedom of information law n° 78-17, we inform you that you have the right to access, rectify and delete information concerning you, by requesting it in writing to the Promoter."

Is that referencing, a law? But, but, surely laws have nothing to do with these contests??

It is unfortunate that you can't participate in whatever community event you want, but at least you get your own event for your own area!

I love these community events a lot so, though I feel for you, I really hope they don't stop doing them.

Companies have changed their region locking in the past, it only requires effort on their part.. which they obviously refuse to do. Square-Enix did that with Deus Ex: Human Revolution and the region locking was reverted.

World of Warcraft has in-game events for both US and EU, both regions receive the exact same items.. so again, government laws? no, not really.
