    You're literally one of the only people who looks at the MMO marketplace and measure things on total profit alone.

    As much as it annoys you, subscription numbers matter. A lot.

    While that's true, almost every game has had a troubled launch including 11. But the difference is that this game failed ridiculously hard and then was shut down for relaunch. I would hope that their argument looks beyond that glaring fact since it's really a non factor at this point. It's more about how they're dictating the measure of "success".

    I'll probably regret diving into this, but the video game industry is similar to that of film. Success is measured similarly. While a film could be an amazing Indie that came out at Sundance or Tribeca it could flop terribly in the box office. So while FF14 could get really high critic scores, if enough people don't sign up and continue to pay their sub the game could be a "commercial" flop.

    This game could flop if within the next 3 months they lose a lot of subscribers because as others have said the expectations are set incredibly high. The game could still bring in some good money, but if its not in line with their projections of growth player base and monetarily it could lead to disaster.

    Since SE is a publicly traded company their stock price reflects what investors believe. If anyone reads business news you'll see it most often with big companies such as Apple and their new Iphone, etc. If the numbers aren't good enough for the investors then it's not good enough for the company. Doesn't matter how many people play if they don't meet investor expectations. Especially for such a large IP as the FF series, which is why they were desperate to have this game launch successfully. Whether the game will be a commercial success or a commercial flop will probably be determined heavily on the first year of the game just as most games are judged.

    I'm just laughing my ass off that none of the actually good, classic games like IV, II (without the class system, that sucked), V, VI, and IX's staff aren't included in the Magical FF Team. You know. Since the series started to blow from X on. gj, SE.

    funny having launched FFXIV V1 FFXI FFXIV V2 LOTRO EQ1 EQ2 GW UO HGL NWN as well as D1 D2 SC and then there are the Free ones like rappelz perfect world aion mist silk road and far too many others to name here. but hey guess having launched dozens of MMO's and other games makes vets like you look uneducated at best.

    yes many games do launch without hitches unlike this franchise and only the big name company's think its ok to run the first month or two like crap on the players penny.
    they expect the white knights to excuse any and all problems with a bunch of "its launch dont like? GTFO"

    Care to name some popular games that launched without hitches? As in games with a population 250,000 or greater? The names you listed, many of them were far from perfect. Far far. Some of those games aren't even mmo's. Of those games mentioned only LOTRO had the most smooth launch.

    the original statement was many cash shop mmo's launch without hitches because the companies that launch them have several titles under their belts.

    the list above was not in answer to that but the insinuation that I have not been in many MMO or game launches which is anything but correct.

    by the way most of the cash shop games launch with about 150k start ups some are bigger yet they still make it work with surprisingly few start up bugs and no servers locking players out for days
