You don't understand. This is an aspect of game content that, presumably, will encompass a not insignificant amount of developer time. It hurts no one to provide everyone with a baseline, small plot that they can either play around with or choose to upgrade from if they have the ambition (and funds). This design functions beautifully in Rift's dimensions. It lets everyone enjoy what is a huge draw for many players, while simultaneously providing great things to work towards.

Offering a basic plot to everyone baseline and status symbols are not mutually exclusive ideas. It doesn't take a lot of thought to realize that. The owning of a house isn't the status - it's what your house is and looks like that should imply the "status".

The way I see it, we are adventurers and as adventurers go they hardly ever have a house unless they are very rich adventurers that can pay for someone to take care of it while they are out doing their thing.
So from a realistic point of view ( anyone paying for a house at the moment will attest to this) it is not an easy feat to own a house and from the game point of view it should be a status thing to be able to have one.
If everybody and their mom owns a house it will mean nothing at the end more than just a simple side hobby for people to spend money on once in a while, like it is now it means that people will spend a lot of time trying to earn it and have it mean something knowing that not everyone has one.

Of course this will be a temporary thing, with time everyone will get theirs so my point is, let's not ask for hand outs just because we feel entitled due to our monthly fee ( which does not pay for the things earned in game mind you).

The beautiful thing about freedom of speech is that allows us to have our own opinion regardless of real facts.

With that said, I hope that the american economical system would think like you but like many things copied off life we can agree that socialism is hardly something that Eorzea knows at the moment ( outrageous vendor prices anyone?) and should reflect the housing system.

Lol some people here are acting like this is the price of private housing. This is for your Free Company, 850k (if that is the number) can hardly be said to be a lot of gil for a FC.

Well, yeah, but did the video show the auction of the plot as well as the expense of putting up the basic house? The auction system will keep prices interesting as supply and demand kick in and people bid up the desirable plots. Since this video was to illustrate the system we have no idea if the price seen is anything more than notional.

6 months after 2.1 is not acceptable. Housing should have been available at release. It's another smack in the face that they are releasing FC housing only...Not everyone is in an FC. With the very limited space in this game we need housing now. I won't last 6 more months without a house. Please get er done faster! I've already saved my 1 million gil. I'm ready to buy my house!

I really don't see how 850k for a small FC house is unreasonable. Maybe if your FC has only one contributor that'd be a bit tough. But if you pool in gil from each member, it's really not all that bad.
