That sounds pretty cool. It would go well with my "randomized quests scattered around the land" thread, like what Diablo III is going to have.

They could maybe make them so they got attacked by bandits or beastmen sometimes and you could go and help them out, maybe if you got there after the attack you could go and retrieve their stolen merchandise from the bandit/beastmen camp as a little quest too.

Hmm, yeah that might work out better. I was hoping to not have prices be so disparate, but it might not matter in the end.
On the note of NPC vendors, I would like to see SE add a system that allows NPC's to resell items which players have sold to them.
NPC would resell the item for more than the players sells them, creating a gil sink.
A greater diversity of NPC buy-able gear would be good too, and shops should be more organized. Past FF games typically had easily recognizable weapon, armor and item shops in every town.
Yeah that could be good, I NPC everything pretty much but I know a lot of what I NPC is craft mats that someone could use but I'll be damned if they are going to take up space on my retainer ^^.
We don't need this many gil sinks but they are good ideas.
I like some but I dont get how Tax is much of a sink, because it only occurs when you are earning gil so you're always going to be making something on top of the loss, whereas paying for a mount or repair is a 100% loss.
50% Tax would not be a gil sink, it would just mean people have to work twice as hard or half as much gil would be standard.
Guildleve gil rewards should not be so lavish. I know at the beginning of the game it was even more dramatic, like 70k per leve reward. They toned it down a bit but I still get 30k for each leve that is in a horn and the hand faction group. That would help some, instead of a money sink just stop it at a popular source.
good ideas. More ways to spend gil/activities are always good. A gold saucer like place along with triple triad would make me very happy, not to mention it would be a hugeee time sink, which i dig.
Not very fair to any incoming players who need to build up gil to afford what the already rich players sell stuff for.Guildleve gil rewards should not be so lavish.
