    Weapons to be added to the armory system

    I apologize if there is a thread for this already, I searched but didn't find one.

    Many, many threads have been made about which JOBS they will add to the game. A few more on which CLASSES but I don't really see any on which weapons.

    Since weapons = class change in the game, it will be very difficult to make new classes/jobs off of only the pre-existing ones. New weapons will need to be added. Here are some I think should be added.

    Dirk
    Katana
    Kunai
    Greatsword
    Battleaxe
    Whip
    Rapier
    Sai
    Gun
    Pole

    Thoughts??

    Gun could be expanded into Musket, flintlock pistol, and (even though I'd prefer this being a garlean/villian thing) gunblade.

    *if you have a monster bank where Beastmaster can store their pets you could have Bluemage be able to use the special attacks of the banked beast.

    I disagree, i think that PLD's use Gladius type swords but thats neither here nor there. I think the Rapier can be used as a means to start the Fencer class which could ultimately lead to RDM. Kunai/Sai essentially could both be ted for NIN. However, Kunai could be used for a new class (assassin) while the sai could be awesome for tank NIN (parry all the way with 2 sai)

    Weapons are actually classified as [class type]'s Arm (e.g. a battleaxe is a Two-Handed Marauder's Arm_. Jobs will never changes weapons from the class; you would have to redo animations from the class. There's also nothing technically keeping them from duplicating weapon categories and just reclassifying them; however, I would expect a change of style in the process.

    Dark Knight has used a greatsword in only one game in FF history, and that's FF11, where it was merely an alternative to scythe. Dark Knight absolutely should not use a greatsword.     Perhaps I worded myself wrong, but what I was getting at was this: to implement a full array of classes/jobs they are going to have to add new weapon types. GLA arms are dagger, short sword and long swords. They need to add more of these that don't belong to anything yet to make room for new classes.

    On Dark Knight. While I agree that the archetypal DRK uses Sword and Board or GAxe, within the FF MMO universe they have been using Great Swords. I wouldn't be that upset at the use of Great Swords. I would prefer to see a scythe though

    Gutted saw the title of this thread and thought SE had finally come up with a way to disconnect the Weapon=Class system. Now I am just dissappointed as it looks like they will never remove this flaw from the game.

    What I'm saying is that there's really nothing stopping them from creating a "Knight Sword" category with huge overlap with GLA weapons. They probably won't for most classes, though. No reason to. It'll be 2020 before they run short on traditional FF weapon categories.

    There's only been one other FF MMO, which isn't much of a sample size, and the preferred weapon there was scythe rather than greatsword. There is a greatsword specialist in FF11; it's called a Rune Fencer and it's based on a Mystic Knight archetype. Copying FF11 isn't much of a plan to begin with, of course, especially when FF11 is supposed to be borrowed from the series at large, not the other way around.

    (In terms of axes, they're also a rare weapon -- WotL, D, 4WoL. I mainly bring up MRD in terms of Dark Knight is that they have excellent skillset synergy for a Dark Knight.)
