I would run dungeons if I didn't have to wait an hour every time.
Guess I'm the only one post on this thread that happens to like fates, I can run them for hours and not get bored. I also like dungeons, but with the way people go afk, leave, force people to leave in dungeons seems fates are the better option. Maybe if they did buff dungeons it would help put an end to people dropping group etc, but it would have to be a massive buff. Who really knows though, buffing dungeons may do the opposite.
I do not think FATE grinding ruins this game in anyway, however with that said I do think dungeons should get an exp buff to make them just as viable for leveling up. Everyone has their preferred way of leveling, so just because you enjoy dungeon leveling doesn't mean everyone else will.
The issue is Fate has become the focus of the game pre-endgame.
FATE is fine but it should be filler content. Something you do between questing, dungeons, leves, and such. Something that happens as you run by. Not the best/primary thing in the game, that people spam and afk between.
XIV is making the same mistake GW2 did with dynamic events. Way too much focus on them.
Keep fates, but either nerf them alot or buff other venues to be better then them, especially dungeons.
The main issues with dungeons and DF is the que time and less exp gains. How can we make people want to run dungeons, or lower level ones at that?
1) Buff all dungeons a enough to make spamming them as good exp as FATE grids.
2) Place a "Any Random Dungeon" button for max level characters. This button will place the player in any dungeon for any level. Prioritizing placing the "Randomly placed" player with lower level players to fill in needed spots for the que. For their effort, give the player marks and gil at the end. This reward is the same regardless of what dungeon you end up in. Also, make chests give the "Randomly placed" player marks and gil. This will make them grab chests instead of skipping them for speed, since they will probably have little interest in the drops.
This "Any Random Dungeon" button does two fold.
1)Places tanks and healers in the que for lower level dungeons. This allows alts and new players to level character in dungeons with shorter wait times.
2) Give higher level character another source of marks over spamming CM, WP, or AK. You know, something different.
Think about, you randomly place in a dungeon with your level 50. You get Copperbell. You get marks for an easy dungeon and some lower level players actually gets to run a dungeon for exp.
I find it insulting that SE said in the beta forums how FATE will replace NM and HNM.
It does not even come close to replacing NM/HNM.
More dungeons, more XP per dungeon = shorter queues if everyone wants to play them instead of grinding FATEs.
Completely agree with OP. FATEs are really ruining the game right now, and sadly there's no alternative with a comparable exp/hour ratio so everyone just spam them, which in turns breeds a lot of extremely bad lv50's that have no clue how to play their class. Dungeon experience gain needs to be increased greatly to make it a worthy alternative that people will want to do more than once for the story.
They also have to incentivize tanks to queue more often, as they're are by far the biggest bottle neck in the system.

FATES are indeed very boring. I want to do dungeons, but I am leveling a DPS and the waiting time for a dungeon is around 30-40 minutes and the experience that one gets from the dungeon is horrible when you compare it to a FATE. Right now a dungeon queue time is around 35 minutes + 30-40 min dungeon run gets me maybe a 3/4 of my experience bar full, but with a FATE I can level twice during that time.
Even if I get into a dungeon, unless I play my tank, I can not convince the other 3 to kill all the monsters so we can benefit from extra experience. The moment they join a dungeon, they run the path that brings them the closest to the final boss of the dungeon.
SE, please increase the experience gained from the dungeons.
