Man with a Machine Gun and Balamb Garden are two tracks from the FF8 soundtrack I REALLY like, just wasn't too impressed by the entire thing. Battle With Seymour is good but the standard battle/boss themes in FF10 are awful.Yeah, dood, this is one of my favorite FF battle tracks of all times.
But that's because it's such a throw back to the NES / SNES days (as much of IX was meant to be). I mean this song (and several other IX songs) remind you what it's like to be playing a Final Fantasy game 1-6 anyway. They need to do another IX style game where they reuse and revamp old ideas.
I like VII but I feel like it killed the series. I could pretty much live without VIII, X, XII, XIII.
XI & XIV are kind of their own branch off which have their ups and downs in my opinion of the "whole series" as it were.
It's odd to me, though, that you don't like "Man with a Machine Gun" or "Battle with Seymour." One of the most redeeming things about VIII in particular was its OST.

Well at least we have some common ground. ^^ Those are some of my favorite tracks in the 8-10 era, battle or otherwise.
Do you like "Cosmo Canyon?" I like "JENOVA" & "1Wing Angel" as much as the next guy, even after remix/rearrange #10,005, but I think "Cosmo Canyon" is my favorite song in VII. "Those Who Fight Farther" (or however its translated) and "Those Chosen by the Planet" are also good. Overall I find the VII OST incredibly underwhelming, though - aside from these mentioned - several of which are rearranged all the damn time.
Anyway, I like the Mor Dhona & Coerthas background & battle music immensely. I think they are some of the most well done tracks in all of XIV so far. I haven't listened to the entire OST or any rearranged/orchestrated XIV songs yet. Mostly just what I hear wandering around - though (unlike XI) I have my sound turned off a lot because I'm watching TV while I do monotonously boring things like fish/craft. Haha. Fishing/Crafting music is cute the first time, but damn it sucks after the 300th hour (or quite possibly the 2nd hour).
Boy it's all about that Mako Reactor for the grimy atmosphere, and my favorite battle theme from FF7 is actually birth of a god. Mor Dhona is probably the only area theme in the ENTIRE GAME that is both well made and actually suits the setting. I sorta liked the music in La Noscea in beta 2 but once I went to Thanalan/Black Shroud I was veeeeery disappointed. It's funny that while I was slightly bummed when I found out that Naoshi Mizuta wasn't going to be a part of XIV's soundtrack I was still looking forward to Uematsu's work. In any case, like with everything else in this game I hope that whatever comes in the future sucks significantly less than what we have now.Well at least we have some common ground. ^^ Those are some of my favorite tracks in the 8-10 era, battle or otherwise.
