    I love Uematsu's music in every other game he's been part of but let's face it the guys that re-arranged his composition for this game did a terrible job and there are way too many instruments everywhere. Ï really hope we get some Mizuta tracks too to spice things up. As it is the player is likely to hear only 2 tracks during the entire play session. The fields need to be broken into audio zones where the music changes!There's no point why a r40 camp has the same tunes and atmosphere as r1 camp. It doesn't build atmosphere nor make you feel like you're making progress in the game. Also more simple arrangements next time please. When Uematsu does all of the music from start to finish his songs have always been 100% better. Don't let those Hollywood-wannabes throw 100 horns and guitars in the mix as I'm supposed to listen to that track for thousands of hours!

    @OP

    Sorry, major difference of taste between us. Those XI battle tracks were terrible. The Flowers on the Battlefield song is amazing though.

    But I feel you on your dislike for the electric guitar tracks. They're not as annoying to me as the instrumentation of the XI battle tracks, but as a whole they're pretty bad.

    What they SHOULD do, is get Masashi Hamauzu to do the battle tracks, as obviously he is feeling it when it comes to grandiose battle themes. Check out Blinded By Light, the XIII battle theme.

    Rate up if you're feeling THAT!

    This is Square Enix's fault not Uematsu's. Uematsu does the music SE has licensing to the music, SE chops it up and ruins it...

    While I agree the music wasn't implemented as well as it should have in the game, the OPs youtube links did thankfully remind me why I've had FFXI's music on mute for so long.

    I agree with what you say about adding more tracks to vary up the playing field, but I definitely disagree with OP's post, Uematsu's music is wonderful, and I'd like to hear more of his own music added into the game. Call me a fan or whatever you want, I am a huge fan of Uematsu's music.

    I think you picked a bad example.
    I honestly dislike FF8 and FF10 OSTs. A strong (none-SNES) Uematsu battle theme to me would be:

    I do agree that some of the tracks in XIV have that old school Nobuo FF feel to them but at the same time I think they lack the creativity of his past work that really makes it stand out. Not only that, but again, the soundtrack doesn't really suit the game. I do appreciate you for not flaming me though. It's just like, my opinion, man.

    I don't believe that's true. They have the licensing but I think that what we hear in the game is what Uematsu made.

    Edit: I should add that I do in fact like the FFXIV soundtrack so far. It does sound different with the guitars, but he probably wanted to try a new approach to instrumentation for a change, and I have to say that compositionally, these songs are really great and not as cliche as his older tunes (I still love those, cliche does not mean bad), while still holding the feel of classic FF style. Which is genius in my opinion.

    It is possibly the best soundtrack for a game I have ever heard, besides FFVIII.
    Amen to this. Although I am for reworking the soundtrack. For example, Nobuo wrote another part to the Twilight Over Thanalan song that isn't in the game. You can hear it on the Distant Worlds CD/DVD. They need to update the soundtrack. Hire Nobuo for another round, and/or get Masashi Hamauzu in on the battle themes if they want to get away from the Black Mages sound.

    SE owns these songs and has all licensing agreements to them, they could do what they want with it.

    I understand that, but I don't believe they do anything to the music.

    Edit: I should say, think about this: If they were going to change various aspects of Uematsu's tracks, first of all, they would need someone with great compositional skill on board. If they have that person to begin with, why not just use the insider composer to begin with, rather than searching outside for a composer? I don't believe they tampered with Uematsu's tracks.
