hah. this shows how really out of touch they are with the playerbase. he basicaly admited that they are just tacking this on because every other mmo ever has it too. one of the many blunders they have made and still are yet to make. every day i see this crap and it boggles my mind how a company can be this backwards.

maybe its because they are japanese.

Suppse you have 100 PvE items to craft. Now PvP is introduced, and you get a whole new set of 50 items to craft.

What is the difference to a crafter, if they simply introduced new PvE content that created real demand for a whole new set of 50 items to craft?

    None.

The key is "crafters need demand". Demand for what? It doesn't matter.

If Yoshida is right in that only 20~25% of the playerbase will touch PvP, then it's actually conceivable that designing new PvE content that maybe 50% of the playerbase will play, would create much more demand (and cost less to Square Enix) than adding PvP. So if anything, Yoshida's statements is in support that "FFXIV don't need PvP".

Note the emphasis on "need" as in, "without PvP FFXIV will fail". We all know that's simply wrong. I want to emphasis that I am not saying "PvP is bad for FFXIV". I'm not saying that. Just in case some bystanding PvP fanatic gets ticked off. :3

So... there will be crafted PvP gear. I just hope it isn't items of something like tomestones or something even more retarded...

I just hope they separate the PvP rewards and PvE rewards properly, like how they promise that PvP gets its own set of unique skills.

WoW had crossover where you can use the tome-equivalent currency to purchase PvP gear, and PvP gear had very useful stats that could be used in PvE, and all hell broke loose when people who couldn't tell which stats are useful keep wearing inappropriate PvP gear into PvE situations and so on.

It's also quite unfair to the real PvPers when PvE raiders just buy the PvP gear using PvE tokens. It's easy to get PvE tokens, anybody with time on their hands can. But PvP could be designed (and should be) differently because it is, well, player-versus-player.

If I have my say, I say anyone who wants the PvP rewards work at it from the very bottom of the pyramid, just like how any PvP competitions in the real world is. No free ticket to insert yourself in the middle even if you're world first to down Bahamut or something.

I'm more interested in crafting and material sinks for housing myself.

I'd like to see a QoL on my household. Being expected to supply and replace everything from food to uniforms to repairs on the property. You might have a small home with a maid and a grounds keeper, you might have an estate with multiple maids, a butler, some grounds keepers, a chocobo stable hand or 3 and so on. All requiring resource upkeep. If you want to purchase a house and have it be a house, pay basic maintenance and call it done but have an option to call it a household and sink resources in would be a creative way to ditch stuff.

It's all of the small things that make this game what it is. Not even 100% of the player base is PvE oriented. There are gatherers and crafters, people that play for the lore, people that will play for the housing, and people that will play for PvP. If you neglect to satisfy a player demographic, you just lost them.

Ahhh PvP. The thing developers waste their time on and the rest of the game suffers. Its just like story games (Mass Effect) that shoe horn in MP for no damned reason.

Otherwise, skills wont be affected much, since a whole lot of new ones will be available and only usable in PvP. I personnaly came on FF XIV after readin stuff about Frontlines and also after I knew that one of the best hardcore PvPers of all time on DaoC is actually the Game Director, that even went to the hospital because he was in an extremely tired state due to his work.

So yeah. I do give a shit about PvE to see where the story is going, but PvP is where it's at.
    indeed

tbh, i only pick up ffxiv for pvp ONLY. i intentionally prevent myself from reaching endgame pve content because i know that raids doesnt interest me. im looking forward seeing how pvp will grow in this game.

They may want to fix tab targeting & the fact it's hard to melee moving targets & no slow effects. Which also would benefit PvE GREATLY. Along with smoothing out gameplay... from the few PvP video's I've seen as a PvP player, I'm very skeptical.. baseline mechanics need a lot of work.

Cause we all know Final Fantasy players love the series for its awesome PVP, right? -_-

If you want to PVP, play a game designed from the ground up to revolve around it. Games that try to do both always suck at one or the other.
