In my humble opinion a FF title does NEVER need PvP. There are plenty of titles that caters to the the PvP croud.

THIS IS ALL SPECULATION, but here is how I envision it working:
If I had to guess, there will be 'default' PvP gear that is crafted -- to get you into the arena, as it were.
Then, through winning some sort of tokens through PvP (like tomestones), you will be able to 'buy' new, better PvP gear each week. There might be a weekly cap on those tokens you can earn, so one player won't be OP simply because they have the time to spam PvP every day.
Where do the crafters come in, then? I bet they will be in charge of crafting all of the 'off' pieces (jewelry) that cannot be bought with points. This is where PvPers will be able to pick the uniqueness of their job. Perhaps one person will choose resistance to blind... others might choose a reduced sleep time. It's likely that a LOT of jobs will end up picking the same thing... but the choices will be there, and the crafters will have more options to making money.
Also, you know how there are level 70 crafted gear that is comparable to DL IF you choose to meld materia to it? There might be a similar 'side-equivalent' set of gear for PvP... so you can earn gear through tokens OR buy it and meld it IF you have the money.
What the heck? That's kind of funny, moment I moved to new server; there was 2 different guilds giving free carries as I logged in. Kind of difficult to sell runs when people do it for nothing. Ya? Besides, I have never sold a run nor participated in one, the whole thing disgusts me. So quit labeling me. I make 2.8k gil every 30-40 mins running AK. I am going to be rich! Uh...3+ years from now.

I'm surprised people think PvP is going to be any good. I hope you like getting destroyed by bards.
Read carefully. In no way did I "label" you. I sarcastically gave you a suggestion to make gil that all the shady people are doing. And maybe it's just your server, I never see anyone offering free runs out of the kindness of their hearts. :3What the heck? Last server I was on sucked, sucked big time. Only 2 groups sold runs at 350k per. Crafted items were also insane at min 900k, not including materia/melds. I suggest finding a new server like I did and stay AWAY from Diablolos.
I was on one of the top three NA populated servers in Ultros. I actually left yesterday for Exodus. We'll see how it goes.

Can't call something shady when it's just capitalizing on something that people struggle with. Charging an arm and a leg sucks, but thats the price that the first mover sets until someone undercuts them. It's like calling companies that bottle water criminals. They're technically selling someone you could get for free, but they aren't forcing you to buy them.
Same with Titan runs. People don't have to buy them, but they choose to. It's their choice.
Moving back to the OP. This game does need pvp. Even if its not amazing, which I'm pretty sure it won't be. It's a good departure from PvE only games which are starting to go by the wayside. It offers for the 15-20% of people another avenue to sink time into a game. Remember the more time or value that people see in a game the more likely they'll sub. Personally I think the PvP pop will be closer to 40% and either way that's a good thing.
