Im thinking they were referring to Everquests "Lay on Hands". . . but no need to be a jerk i think they were joking around.

t the original concepts of the game that started this franchise piggybacked on a majority of D&D's concepts.
I mean look at the bestiary for the original on the NES and then look at a first edition AD&D Monster manual. :P

I wasn't trying to be a jerk either, sorry. I just see a lot of posts with people comparing FFXIV to WoW and other games and it gets annoying.
Yes, sarcasm doesn't translate well in text, usually helps when people do /sarcasm.
I'm a huge D&D fan and it was where I got my start in Role Playing Games. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the Holy Paladin undead slayer archetype in games and I find it refreshing that the PLD here is more of a High Knight which rings true to the back story in the game and the origins of the word, kinda like the Knights Templar.
I will say that I sometimes wish we had a better head slot than a crown or circlet.

I have seen this kind of topic come up in other places too. Abilities-wise, it feels like a Paladin to me. I guess my idea of a Paladin is a knight that uses some holy/white magic to help fight or protect himself/others. There are some holy magic type abilities we get: Flash (blinding bright light), Circle of Scorn (thrusts sword into ground emitting white light that applies dot (burning holy fire) to all enemies), and Hallowed Ground (invincibility shield). Plus, we can cross-class white magic skills like protect, cure, and resurrection. So, I am not really sure why people think Paladin in FFXIV isn't Paladiny enough...

It's a bit confusing changing the ability set of Paladin in this game since Paladin in practically every other FF game has been a Knight with a decent proficiency in healing. It's even more confusing because Paladin in 1.0 had a job only heal spell plus another that gave a heal over time effect.
I think they should have just called them Knight in English as well. I think it would be less confusing. Probably a bit too late to change that now though.
Probably has a lot to do with Paladin's Cure spell is complete garbage. In FFXI, their cures up through Cure 3 were just as efficient as a healer's, less any healing+ enhancing gear. They definitely seemed to go WoW's route for Paladin on this, as healing as a tank was not viable.

I do miss Holy Succor from v1.0. Hopefully, when the level cap increases, Paladin will get this back at some point.Probably has a lot to do with Paladin's Cure spell is complete garbage. Sure, our heals are crap. But I don't think you necessarily need heals to be a Paladin when you use white magic for other things such as offense or damage mitigation.Probably has a lot to do with Paladin's Cure spell is complete garbage.
