Yes, "act of God" is pretty much a standard term in legal agreements for things like insurance, shipping and so forth. Generally it is used to refer to natural disasters that the company has absolutely no possibility of controlling.

To give a few examples from a game I played until recently: earthquake severed the cross-pacific cables, internet was globally messed up and anyone whose access to the game included hops across the Pacific had issues. Forums were flooded with "what's wrong, what have you done to our game!". Sorry, this is not our fault. It is an act of God. Another time, a massive snowstorm cut off the power in all of a section of the US and servers, which are located on the east coast of the US, were all down. Again, forums flooded, why can't we log in, why aren't you guys fixing this!!. Sorry, it's not our fault. No one accidentally turned off the servers. It's an act of God.

Also, those developers and those workers/technicians that perform the maintenance, they don't work for free. You're paying them to add content, to fix bugs, etc.

Good lord. Another thread complaining about maint. Do people notice they've actually tweaked the times of every single maint. It means that they're actually paying attention and listening. Otherwise they would be doing maint every wednesday during primetime like they did the first few.

No matter when they schedule or how they schedule it, someone will always be interrupted due to their own personal schedule. A game catered to over a million (probably?) playing individuals will have some people who can't play for 1 night. ONE NIGHT. You are paying to play for a game for the rest of that time, not that 1 night.

That's like not paying for your car payment because you might not be able to drive your car for 1 day due to it being at the mechanics. Stupid OP.

Is it legal for your cable tv company to charge you for an entire month if there is an outage?

Personally, I have never heard of a cable tv provider giving credits or being sued for having downtime, let alone downtime due to scheduled maintenace.

It's maintenance, it's been the same for most games. This game has less maintenance then a lot of games I've played, and when the game goes online again it usually is fine. Nothings perfect all the time, but dang they do it good and fast.

If your play time coincides with maintenance time it sucks. Why does everyone throw legal/lawsuit stuff out there when they can't play for a couple of hours? If you read the eula(no one does really) it would say "too bad so sad QQ" in some way shape or form. Unless your a company and hires them directly and has a contract stating that the service your paying for has to have a 100% up time it will never happen.

How would SE know you wouldn't have not played that day anyway? It is too trivial to argue. Out of your monthly fee it is pennies. It would cost SE more to figure out who and what.
Yeah they could give a blanket time back to everyone which imo would be the best answer to the problem.

Act of God- an instance of uncontrollable natural forces in operation (often used in insurance claims).

It has nothing to do with beliefs, but rather is used to describe something happening that is out of people's control, most often large scale natural disasters or something like wind blowing a giant sign off of a roof onto your car. (actually happened to my mom)
