This must be my first MMO right? I've played a bunch that have mixed up the maintenance as a regular fix but irregular on times to make it fair for people. I'm sorry that you all only seem to know Final Fantasy and WOW.

It's not like these servers are all connected to the point that NA can't be taken down at a certain time and EU at another time and JA at another...

The point is this. No matter what time they shut down, someone would want to be playing. These threads are just people
claiming their timeslot of play is more important than someone elses.
Yes there is that argument that there are different data centres and they could be updated at different times.
This could then lead to the fact that the data centres that are updated when SE are sleeping would then suffer with major downtime when/if something unexpected happened, because people who could have fixed it quickly are actually asleep and in another country.
They run these things when it is easier for them to deal with any problems that may arise.

So it makes perfect sense that they run them when they have their full team available to cope with any surprises.

I get the maintenance is essential and all of us want patches with extra content to be added into the game. I'm asking if it is even legal to have us pay for something that we're unable to play when we want to? It seems like every other time I am able to play one of the two days I have off work is a day when there's maintenance...yet I paid for 3 months because I wanted that silly flying mount. I know that it's my fault.

I actually sent this sort of message to customer support which offered me a generic reply saying that sorry, not at this time, but we'll pass this information along to the developers.

So yeah..holding my breath to hear back from the developers.

It's kinda funny that I quit playing FFXI because it literally soaked up all of my free time doing things like just traveling from one place to another...and if this keeps up, I'll probably quit FFXIV because during my free time I'm unable to even play the game.

Did you really just put that to compare it to this? Does the dealership come to your home before you go to work and take the car on their time to do maintenance while you pay for it?

I think that's a personal choice. I felt like this for a while but, they gotta shut it down sometimes, mistakes happen.
They have tons of servers to keep up with. Its improved at least. The maintenence times have been moved to a later time of
night when it is not as active.

Almost every online game, heck even some online services other than games gotta shut down every now and then.

Damn, i really should tell the manufacturer of my car that he has to refund me for the time i have to put my car to service every thousands of kilometers. Or i just refuse to, well, a new shift or new motor is indeed better to pay off for sure! -.-
