I suck at Garuda, but I have relatively good gear on my PLD DL/AF2 and they judge me to be a good player. I've wiped so many groups when I get lost in phase 2.
Well basically you can't judge a book by its cover and run if you see me in your Garuda group.

You need a minimum gear to work in a certain dungeon. Even if you are a very skillful player, a full group of ppl wearing a lv 44 weapon and AF1 gear could not beat 2nd boss of AK because you simply don't have the damage output. If you suck at the game then, of course, gear won't help.

Gear is REQUIRED to finish certain boss. Skillful player have some leeway even undergear because these players make zero mistake. For the majority of the player, unless you think you can make zero mistake, you are required to gear yourself. For example, how many people can dodge all Tumult and bombs 100% of the time for 30 mins in the fight? (taking zero damage except unavoidable AOE damage) If you are not one of those people, please gear yourself.

Yet you can't get a weapon better than a level 44 weapon without running AK to get one, see the problem? The Hard Mode Primals on the other hand, you probably should have every possible gear by that point.

Ifrit weapon or the crafted weapon needed for your relic are both options for new players.

Not when people are abandoning Hard Primals for the reason this thread exists. If you're a DPS you are perpetually screwed when it comes to getting rare gear because you already had to wait 30-90 minutes to DF, or all the elitist snobs on your server are going "LF (primal) Hard, SR, iLVL70, Must be experienced"

And on Excalibur nobody can afford the crafted item twice. As you've already read "oh noe, grey gear, must be noobkickem"

If someone is buying two crafted weapons then I'm assuming they already got their first relic and therefore can buy a grand company weapon for their second class. I got nearly all darklight gear mixed with AK gear and a Sarnga on my bard by myself because I put in the effort to be successful instead of crying to other players.

Just use the DF to get experience at primals ( obviously you would have you iLVL70 gear from farming CM ) and once experienced , join the elitist snobs groups .

You have three options.

1. Buy a lv 55 weapon for less than 10000 gil and it's already High quality. Dirt cheap
2. Fight Ifrit to get your weapon.
3. Gear yourself in WP.

You are REQUIRED to get a lv 50+ weapon and at least 3 lv 50+ armor before getting into AK. I don't know how many times I have to say, Run CM or WP until you have at least 3 pieces of lv 50+ armor and a lv 50+ weapon before getting into AK. AK drop lv 60 armor so you are REQURED to gear yourself to lv 50+.

Not disagreeing with anything you've said here. I was amused last night in WP when a full Darlkight geared tank told me I was undergeared for the dungeon wearing a mix of AF and Darklight myself (my jewelery could use upgraded, but I'm not in a hurry to get to primals or AK). Heck, he didn't heckle the bard that didn't have AF gear and item level 20 rings/bracelet.

We breezed through the zone untl Tonberry King. Tank assigned the bard add duty then rage quit after a single wipe. Thankfully we got a new tank and completed the zone after second attempt. Original tank was an elitiest d-bag.

Yeah, definitely don't need relic weapons for the demon wall. Relic weapons help kill it before the bees come out though.

Unless I've read the relic reborn quest information wrong, players need to go through AK as part of the Relic series. I understand people want others to have the Relic weapon for speed runs, though. On Cactuar, it seems people believe the Relic is a must anymore.

I'll let you in a secret few people seem to know: There's a level 50 dungeon that doesn't even require storyline completion, and it drops better gear than AF / ilv55 weapon. Oh, did I mention you can beat it in a full white gear party, as it's obviously intended to be the entry lv 50 dungeon?

I don't know what you're talking about, it's a known fact that you need at least one relic DPS or you'll never be able to beat Demon Wall.
