    Tank mentality.

It seems like every third tank I play with is just a complete d-bag. My friends say they run into a lot of tanks with really bad attitudes as well. Is it a power trip cuz they are the "leader" of the group or have I just had some bad luck with people? Most of the time it's not even me the tank rages about. Also if you ask the tank to do something a certain way they flip out and basically say stfu. I've started to roll a tank just for this reason, to try and bring some non d-bagness to the community.

So is this a common thing with tanks, or is it just bad luck?

Its the MMO generation we live in now. This kind of attitude becomes more and more common. It isn't just with tanks but every class has these types of people. My favorite are the DPS who hit like a wet noodle but think they are hercules.

There's a flip side to this.. There has been some people calling me out for "bossing people around" or being in a "power trip" because I asked people to follow the kill order >_> And I'm VERY nice about it all the time. So I guess there's a fine line. Though you do have a certain responsibility as a Tank that some people take more seriously than others.

haha laughed too hard in this..
seriously though you will rarely see these bad attitudes in the jap. community. i had been challenging coil turn 1 for a time now and we keep failing in the snake, all my pt members just say dont mind or throw funny jokes to the one who failed to execute.

i played once in ak w/ English filter and when i just said which creep to LB the other guy got mad at me. well lots of other bad experiences playing at primals w/ english filter too though.. just bad..

Its not about being mad at mistakes.
its about being mad that THEY will will place the blame on the tank, instead of on those who messed up.

by taking the pre-emptive you can assign the fault before being the target of everyone elses anger.

As RepBreon said, the problem stems from how much their are harassed for other peoples mistakes.

I've developed low tolerance to people, when I know their actions are going to cause ME to be the one who takes the fall.

So I ask my group not to do X, or plz do Y.
When I see they dont follow this, I ask one more time.

If they are "Trying" I forgive them, but if they blatantly say "Ill do w/e I want L2P" I'm done.

Thats when the DBag comes out.

And every group after that follows int he same steps (Which is literally 90% of groups) tanks tend to develop a short fuse.

People arnt pricks for no reason, something OTHER people do causes it to happen.

And its not just FFXIV, its all MMOs.
(#1 reason stems from the fact ppl think being a DPS means an easy ticket to being lazy)

The idea that you think getting angry at people is rational decision to improve their gameplay is...interesting.

I get shitty because it makes me feel OH so much better. If I didn't vent I'd go Titan (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻). Spare the speech about requiring anger management; I manage my anger by telling the source of my anger to stop making me angry. If they get better, yay, if they acknowledge their mistake I INSTANTLY apologise and treat them with the utmost respect (I got a soft spot for people willing to learn).

If I want to legitimately improve someone's play, I'm an angel, because I'm sure as hell not wasting hours because one idiot in my group can't move out of something.

EDIT: Claire explains it in a much less confronting manner.

To be honest my mentality as Tank is that

"I got a group of people who trust me to protect them I can't let them down"

I know it dumb menttality but that's how i feel when I am tanking that I need to protect the people who are with me.

Over the years I've run into a few tanks with a God complex who seem to expect someone to be rolling out the red carpet in front of them with a tray of canapes and a continuously refilled glass of champagne at hand. They aren't very common and were generally elitist players.
