Nah, they just need to make it a gearcheck so you can't get a derpbot to harvest crystals infinitely and level to 50 on just that. eg:
1) No EXP if you harvest any materials 10 levels below the gear level*.
2) 5X wear rate on gear more than 5 levels below the material level.
Likewise, remove crystals from being a level 1 item, it should be somewhere in the 20's or even 30's.
* To clarify I mean, if you're mining from a level 5 node with level 15 gear, there's no exp from NQ materials.

Yes, Gathering COULD have been just fine as it is XP wise, if it wasent purely a "run in circle between 4 nodes for 5 levels" kind of thing.
Had there actually been exploration invovled, more nodes within same levels and no Gathering log telling you EXACTLY where to go for what item at wich level, then it might actually have been fun to level up.
Right now, its just "Go to camp A, do X amount of gathering leves to hit X level. Proceed to Camp B, repeat".
SE had SO many possibillities with gathering. They could have made several large underground areas like we had in 1.0, that could hold nodes for both mining and botanist.

It could also have something to do with the fact that you have every single class in the game at 50.

Crystals ARE lvl 26, but I'm assuming you mean shards. This is a bad idea and you should feel bad for having suggested it. V1 was just RNG, and it was incredibly stupid boring. What they should have done is have a decay rate on the nodes. The more frequently YOU harvest from it, the less often it generates for you, so sitting in the same place for an hour would increase the node generation by several minutes. Move on to something else.
What about harvesting in other games? AAR's harvesting is slightly more interesting than the WoW clones (most other games you just "click on the node" and done), the one game I played the longest would randomly drop materials when you harvested from it (with the right tool) but the materials were skewed. You'd think "Mythril" would have been the rarest material, but it turns out Silver is. And then they introduced non-instanced mining which used a different tool, but stacked better, and nobody did mining ever again.

I actually edited the post after I posted it to say that I meant no EXP on NQ. If you aren't using the skills to increase the HQ drop then you don't really care about the materials anyway.
Maybe now we can spam cutters or QQ and get 100 tombstones and get 5 mythic pieces it be nice. even if there only lv30ish, Spam some different Dungeons , No different stuff evil lol. Panic on some there things. That we have not yet seen what there planning. Is well . yea. more and likely be just get 1billion tombstones on CM and 1billion for AK. In square mindset. It comes down to , now that they sold a bleep load of the game in the rest of the world. Have they became a global company?



Neither of those are Mistakes.
They are both corrections to miscalculations in the original system. The Gatherer Classes should all have been equal at the start and they weren't.
As for increasing areas where stuff is given here are my theories:
Cape Westwind + 10-15 Philo
Praetorium -10 Philo + 20 Myth
WP + 20 Myth
AK +10 Philo +10 Myth
L50 Mobs in CM, Praet, AK + Allagan Piece drops
