A lot of people would be better informed about this game if they knew more about its history. As a relatively weak example, I'm curious how many people know about Good King Moggle Mog and its eventual re-inclusion as "new content." We already had that fight. It was designed a long time ago. A lot of these assets were designed a long time ago. ARR took way more than two years to make, and a lot of the stuff we don't have now is probably going to come back as "new content" for months, even years to come. The more you know.

For this reason, people are ACTIVELY AVOIDING your "powerful matching" system to avoid conflict and enjoy playing the game as they want to.
In a recent Game Watch interview this new matching system was touched upon which will be coming in 2.1. I hope this is something that will help with that situation.

GW: There are couple of things that caught my attention when looking at the forums, firstly you mentioned you will be adding a “party recruit window”, what is this?

NY: In the previous FFXIV there was a feature where you can announce what dungeon you want to go, and can join with roles xxx. For those that want to form parties will look at those and pick them up to build the parties. We first wanted players to use the DutyFinder and decided to release this feature in patch 2.1.
You said it before but in FFXIV ARR there is a community that was already built. When lots of new players come into the world, we didn’t want them to just stick together. The reason why DutyFinder matched legacies and new players was done purposely. By doing this we feel that the distance between them was shortened.

GW: Right now there are people shouting to gather members, so this will help them.

NY: Yes. This was a system that was really welcomed during the previous FFXIV.

Melding is more casual now, but crafting is less casual, requiring more dungeon runs for a complete set of crafted gear, than for Darklight.
As far as this goes, the Crystal Tower will be the start of new equipment coming into the game. They still havent released the Vanity gearset option and, as is the nature of an MMO, there will constantly be more upgrades for equipment and new things added. Like the materia system. in 1.0 there was more than just stat bonuses that materia could give you, this will be making a comeback. Sorry if these things are not coming fast enough for your liking.

Eeeeh... I'm disagreeing with you Zakarn.

Duty Finder was most definitely the powerful matching system that he was talking about in the first letter. We devoted an entire Beta session to it. Not only did it shatter spectacularly at early access and launch, it's useless for about anything BUT the easiest of content. Duty Finder was something I was looking foward too, and I was profoundly disappointed. The revamped "LFP" system will probably be much better, but Hardcores will cloister themselves to their FCs.

You can't MAKE people play together and when you try, you get threads about it.

I liked reading about Yoshi's vision for ffxiv, but I feel like his vision and his implementations are two separate beasts. The game felt to me like I had one option at each stage in the game. For leveling, I had FATEs. For philosophy tomes, I have CM. For mythology tomes I have AK. For end game I have Coil. Any straying from that path is not efficient nor is it fun.

Seems more like a one lane nature walk at the moment instead of a theme park. I am still extremely excited for content yet to come, though.

I'm not disagreeing with you there, just pointing out that even Yoshi-P recognized things arent working like he hoped they would back then and is looking forward to ways to fix that. The Game Watch interview is, I think, a step in the right direction. At least he is trying and people still want to lynch him for it.

I feel like his vision is still too idealistic. It shows in the way it was implemented with no vote-kick, there was no gear check, no limits on Need/Greed rolls, no penalty for leaving. As reality is sinking in, these elements are starting to be implemented piece by piece. I'm cautious about the LFP system. I'm not impressed with the MVP idea AT ALL.

These mistakes were already made. I don't see why he felt the need to make them again. I'm not trying to lynch him for it. Just beat him with a wet noodle.

I have a character on a JP world and while I have had problems with the DF, all of them are english speaking (usually NA) players. I don't mean that as an over generalization either. I mean I have yet to come across a single JP player that has been problematic in the queue even if they don't like being queued with new players. I have had some JP players that were irritated with EN players, but not the trolling or hostile behaviour I get from the NA players in general.

The experience on the whole is radically different in the JP only queue on JP worlds then in EN only on NA worlds. So am beginning to think that the reason they didn't think to put some of these features in, is because while the attitudes are still there they aren't as problematic as on the NA side.

Granted this is till somewhat short sighted, but after having seen how radically different behavior between a high population JP server and a high population NA server is, it still makes sense to me how they could have underestimated the potential problems. Honestly as much as I would prefer playing on a NA server because of language barriers, there are times I would far rather play on the JP servers because of attitudes, or at least public facing behavior. (I still am against hard gear checks in general, but so long as it is for DF random only I am cautiously okay with it)

What I can agree upon on a general scale is that I do believe Yoshi-P and his team are passionate in making the best game possible, rather it be it's gameplay, social, or technical aspect. I do see FFXIV being incredible in the long run. To me it is already better than any MMO that has come out since..well...WoW/FFXI. However, they do have a nasty tendency for things to hit the fan on almost everything. Rather if it was congestion, delays, DF being broken, waiting in line for AK, people exploiting so many things, RMT intensity, economy controversies, and so on. However at the same time, this is pretty normal for starting MMO's and just have to let time fix things. I think the difference this time is we have such high standards of SE that people are less forgiving on any actions they do not perform well in. Its fear on both developer and player side because both know whats at stake for this game.

Probably the worst sarcasm I've read all day and pretty idiotic. If you read my post the first part is bringing up the fact that tons of people are getting hacked. 2nd part is saying that if they want this to be a "themepark" MMO you have to bring up the "other" attractions. Which in 14 is pretty much everything other than end game grinding.

    Terrible trolling on your part.
