Thinking of buying iLvl 70 items? Info on comparisons here

    Hello Famfrit,
So I've had multiple requests for ilvl 70 items and lots of questions regarding how good it is, what materia should be melded, etc. This post is aimed at helping you decide whether or not ilvl 70 items are worth it for you. I do not have the answer to what the best materia is for quint-melding ilvl70 gear since every job is different and more importantly, every raiding group has different needs / strategies.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to DoW. I've been crafting since beta and have barely reached lvl 33 for my BRD so I've never done much on-the-ground testing myself. Regardless, there's a wealth of information out there on the crafted gear v.s. DL gear and whatnot so I'm regurgitating information from Reddit, FFXIV forums & other high lvl FC raid leaders.

Ok so onto the beef of the msg:

First off, the ilvl 70 items are pretty much not relevant to you if you have reached darklight armor & relic. There seem to be three reasons why you would purchase this gear if you have darklight gear:

    1. If you are a hardcore collector or like to have shiny things, then...well you gotta do what you gotta do right?
    2. ilvl70 will convert to IV materia in comparison to Darklight Armor which cannot be converted or ilvl 55 with a low chance of IV materia.
    3. You have too much gil

If you are like most players who have considered ilvl 70, then you are about to jump into the serious lvl 50 dungeons and are wondering how far ilvl70 gear like HQ quint-melded Vanya can carry you. Well, the answer is quite simple--> as far as darklight gear will carry you. If you quint-meld your HQed ilvl70 gear, it is on par with darklight gear. So what are the benefits of buying this gear?

    1. Possible to max 5 stats v.s. 4 stats on your gear, assuming that it is HQed.
    2. Assuming you do the above, you have gear that may be better than darklight. <----- this is highly debated / contested
    3. Skip the farming process for tomes to get your darklight gear.

the 1 & 2nd reasons may be important if you're really worried about maxing the potential of your role (dps, tank, healer). However, if you boil the debates around ilvl70 gear, the 3rd reason is why you're going to buy it.

TL;DR ilvl 70 items is either for collectors or those wanting to skip farming darklight gear.

I hope this clarifies what the purpose of ilvl70 items are, but if I have written something wrong here, PLEASE correct me!

    -R.Y.

shoutout to CaD, Choco, & Awsumz...<3 you guys

Not true, I've done many a dungeon on my heavy darklight, it hasn't bound nor has it gained any spiritbond.

What part isn't true? His statement is accurate.

He said you can't convert Darklight gear. However, I can assure you having had my gear for awhile that Darklight does become bond despite there being no real use for it to be. You can witness this by observing the bar next to the durability condition when you hover over a piece or if for some reason it doesn't show up I'm sure several people can confirm my statement as I started this server 2 weeks late and just got my spam on Tuesday during our Turn 4 Coil run.

he said you cant convert darklight because well...you can't. While it is true you can gain spiritbond on ilvl70 and above items in coil, you still canno tconvert the darklight armor to materia. Sources below.

... I already stated that in my post and it's been quoted 3 times now. I don't understand why people keep correcting something that's not incorrect. Just because you can spiritbond something doesn't mean it's convertable.

Anyone else confused? I don't... ummm... okays so the entire reason I even interjected is because you can convert crafted armor into materia. You cannot convert darklite into materia regardless of the fact that it can be spiritbound in coil. The fact that it can be spirit bound in coil must be the part you are focusing on but this is irrelevant to the point Ryu was trying to make.

Striv is just correcting one part not the entire point. Darklight does spiritbond. That may mean it'll be convertible down the road (theoretically) but at the time being it isn't. He wasn't trying to negate the entire point. I wish they would have put some items with Materia slots in the Philo / Myth tomes. I'd like to be able to customize my playstyle compared to other WHM's etc. Hopefully down the road that starts to play a role. The only use I've had for Materia is for the relic quest. Granted I'm sure there is use for them when it comes to crafting and gathering once I get into it.
