This is why, and I don't care how much it may annoy someone who wants to yell "you're not in full DL stupid noob die I hate you scum" or some other positive reinforcement, I will never ever wear that godawful heavy darklight armor. The flanchard I can deal with, even though it gives me fat thighs. But hide my face and look like a Halloween decoration? Oh, hell no.
I can't wait to get my allagan chest so I can stop wearing DL. I put off getting the chest/head for as long as possible for that exact reason. And the can't move your neck comment in my original post wasn't a joke. If you haven't noticed, try and target someone standing beside you.

It's also very apparent when running, you'll see the fin on your head move with the direction of your head. Notice it's only moving with your shoulders. You are also staring at the ground while your shield is out.

It should be noted, in FFIV -- Cecil the first paladin in FF his sprite had a Coronet, and thus since XI and XIV goes back to the roots, so to say; in terms of AF gear you as a PLD get a crown just like Cecil

With the DL armor, or any other armor of a similar "style", you DON'T have the choice to not display your helmet.

Nope, does nothing. Technically we aren't wearing a helm, it's just a chest piece.

A plain face is boring imo. With awesome looking headpieces you look more intimidating, powerful, mystical, villanous etc.

Just imagine these guys running around with their faces showing:

If I could get either of these armors I would go way out trying to obtain them. It may be because I like roleplaying, and evil at that. But even roleplaying a good character I feel showing your face just destroys the mystery of your character. Take a WoW Paladin for example:

For me... showing your plain old boring face just diminnishes the epic feel of your character.
And it all went downhill after this Tier .... They had some of the goofiest sets in the game.

Your Great Aunt Mildred made it for you.

You will wear your tiara and you will like it.

Yes, it will and it makes perfect sense: magic. We're not recreating reality here. We're playing a game that has "fantasy" in its very name. Magic is pretty damned common, and it's the exact same reason why you get more defense out of wearing a short sleeved chestpiece than wearing a long sleeved one and why no one ever wears anything to protect their groin (the leg armor doesn't reach up to the waist, it just hits the upper thigh and chest armor overlaps that area by maybe a few inches so that for anything other than a basic standing posture you're not going to have anything protecting some parts you want to protect a *lot*): the item has magical properties that keep you from harm.

If you really want to get indignant, I'd be complaining about the short sleeves more than the lack of a helmet: your arm is a lot more likely to get attacked than your head is and a helmet explicitly inhibits vision. Some armored knights, historically, preferred to go without a helmet in real combat (i.e. not jousting) for just this reason (peripheral vision matters when you're charging into an infantry formation) but no one would *dare* go without arm protection if they were going through the effort to wear absolutely everything else.

If you take a sharpie and color on your screen where your face is you could draw a helm and then it would look like you were wearing one till vanity slots come out.
