Another possibility is your 570GTX drivers weren't uninstalled completely (if at all) intefering with your 7950. Also, you could try the 13.8 (can't remember exact number) catalyst drivers instead of the beta versions.

Ouch, that looks bad. Looks like it's a defect with the card itself. I own a HD7970 myself and haven't had any of the issues you've mentioned. I'd suggest what most of the others are suggesting, return it.

Windows does not load drivers for hardware that's not installed. Better to leave the old drivers installed since if the new hardware doesn't work you won't have to reinstall everything.

If you are only experiencing an issue with this game, but if other software/games run fine and issue free, then it's most not likely the card. I really think if the card was bad you would be experiencing BSODs all the time and be seeing artifacts all the time. But I agree if it's not working properly for whatever reason, return it for a refund before your stuck with a card you can't return.
