XIV's story is so much worse than VII. And I hated VII.

Hear me out.

In vii, you could spends DAYS at the Golden Saucer, ignoring Metoer,, the planet wide apocaypse. You culd spend your time snowboarding or....whatever. I didn't spend much time there.


I miss the Gold Saucer. At least it was optional. Here? It's not. AND it is very weakly justified.


The Ifrit storyline was ok. Set the tones, setting, everything. But it's been downhill from there.


The leadup to Titan dragged way too long, and felt largely pointless. I beat Ifrit, but have to prove myself to 5 different peple before they even tell me how to GET to him??? And even then, Ishtola is the one who makes it possible..........

Then stuff happens, then Garuda is said to be the next big threat, but we need an airship to get to her. Now, I'm a bit fuzzy on primal lore here, but doesn't Garuda hold sway over the dragons in the north, and pretty agressive for a primal to boot? So WHY THE FUCK DO I SPEND TEN LEVELS MIRED IN ELVEN POLITICS ABOUT HERETICS!?!? I play a paladin. Try to RP her as such. But half of thesse quests were driving me up the wall.

Your "heretics" may destabilize your country, but Garuda will DESTROY it! Just tell me where the airship is!!!!



Then I need to retrieve it myself, and Alphinaud is a general d-bag once I do. At this point, about the only thing I care about storywise is what happened to Minfilia. Anyone else this disappointed with the main storyline? Does it ever get better?

My complaint is that what happened to Noraxia left a really bad taste in my mouth. I'm just starting the leadup to Garuda, so I'm at that point. Noraxia's fate was unnecessary for a good story; they could have hit the JRPG emotional low without it.

Garuda hols sway over the Ixal (birdmen), not the Dragons. The dragons saw Midgardsormr as a leader, and the rumor is that they worshiped Bahamut.

Ikr... the death of Noraxia made me really sad as she was one of my favorite characters. She was almost on waifu levels for me ;___;

OP: Personally I think it gets alot better after you defeat Garuda. I do not want to spoil anything, but almost each story quest from now on is related to the main story (sadly, they are very very few. (I hope you like FATEs)). Overall I loved the story of this game. Story gets 8/10 for me. Could have had more story twists, but I understand they can not do so as the world is not allowed to change too much.

The real problem is so many of the main story quests are filler. I understand they wanted to make it last from 1-50 with unending questing, but I'd have rather just had a main story quest every 5 levels or whatever without the filler. The story is IMO the best FF... at certain points and moments... but the majority of it is filler, which drags it down as a whole.

As to the complaints about Noraxia, I felt it was largely useless, because Noraxia seemed like a throw-away character in the first place. I think it would have been much more shocking and emotional if it had happened to Minfilia instead of Noraxia.

I did not think the story was very good. Too many filler quests and the only thing interesting that happen imo is when you end up fighting something from one of the previous FF games.

The story may have worked better in a single player game but not so much in a mmo. The nations rely on the scions way to much considering how few scions there are and the scions all rely on you. I'm not taking into account other players as scions because then scions would make up most of the population.

The end dungeons for the story are just annoying. They should have had them be 4 mans instead of 8 since most people don't ever go back to them after finishing them. Waiting around 2 hours to finally get into the dungeon just to progress the story is just fail.

CM and Prae get run constantly for tomes. If anything, it's every pre-50 dungeon that never gets touched again.

You are going to have a conniption when you get to the very end of the story quests, before the final instances. One word, sandwiches.

I think I raged about that in vent for about 3 hours straight.

Despite the stories flaws i'm looking forward to what will happen next with future expansion, it doesn't surprise me that the story is very plain as it was probably rushed considering it's a revamp. But with how it ended i can see it getting stronger later on, especially now they should have more funding for the game.
