And really, how would one measure demand w/o actually selling things? I'm not an economist, but logically your point doesn't make sense behind people are afraid to sell things like they used to.

No, quite the opposite. If there's a huge demand for Item A, and there are none available, that makes the price of them go up. Sure, you could find the one person who puts them for the same price, but that's rare. 99% of the time, the person will inflate the price, because the demand is there, but there's no supply. If Item A suddenly becomes more abundant, the price will start to decline, because there are more options, and people will begin to undercut each other in order for their item to be sold first.

When Square-Enix removed that 367 billion gil, they in turn increased the value of 1 gil, because there is much less of it in circulation. Players are aware of this, and will now increase prices of items so they can in turn yield a bigger result of gil from their transaction. Prices will slowly go back down soon, once people realize that there won't be much of a demand for items at a high price.

Pricing going up huh? I wish i lived in this alternative universe. I can't make a dime with all the people undercutting eachother at this point, crafting is pretty much pointles unless you're making 2*star* Greens and buying the materials yourself...
