It is a bad design concept that everyone for some reason adopted.

And I agree nothing really feels all that rewarding in XIV currently. The game is a 100% gear hand out. Even in Coil 100% 2 BIS pieces per win.

MMOS use to not be like this nor should they be now.
This seems to only be seen as bad design to diehard XI fans. Me personally (also a XI vet) hated the fact that gear that was BIS in 2002, was still BIS in 2007. With each expansion stagnated at 75 they kept adding more and more incremental side grades and incredibly niche situational gear. That the desire to squire new gear began to dry up as the only real drive eventually was that new gear looked different. I'd rather gear get replaced than for it to get stale

EDIT: to make a long story short I hated that by the time I quit XI in 2008 I was still using the Same gear I had been using since NA launch

Yeah, they didn't give Equipment/crafting items, much thought. It's all very linear. No holy crap items, nothing to aspire towards.

But just being handed things for showing up is so much fun! It's like we're all on the Oprah set when she's giving away brand new cars!

But I'd also like to know who thought button mashing, not in a fun way like action, fighting or even old school beat 'em up games, but in the boring 1-2-3 way would actually be an entertaining combat system.
Or repeated mindless fetch quests over and over and over again would somehow be exciting and adventurous.
Or having a "massive multiplayer" game that doesn't require communication at all.
I also noticed a lack of memories and emotions. The game(and genre), probably mostly because of the handouts, doesn't evoke any emotions or memorable experiences at all. It's all very monotonous and mechanical. Which is probably part of why people MMO hop so much now. No emotional attachment.

    New MMOs suck. :\

There should actually be some gear that when you get the drop, you want to take a screenshot of it.

Still have some of the from FFXI, like Othinius' Bow from Wyverpoacher, drop from Valkurm Emperor and a nice screenshot of Voluptuous Vivian.

Be honest though, you didn't take a screenshot because the ITEM was awesome, you took it because the drop rates were atrocious and you could literally camp certain items for year ( like me wit monster signa) and never get it... Woo! Fun times! And I use the word "fun" quite wrongly

Why do so many things in this game feel out of place and backwards
Well gear is just a reward , the fun should be in playing the game . But it seems at 50 as I was told you need to farm tokens to get gear to do dungeons which is a bit of a time sink imo.

I also thought it was a bit of a joke when I got my job armor at lvl 45 from simple solo quests which was better than the armor I got from doing dungeons that took forever to complete .

Why do people thinking running dungeons over and over is any different than any other kind of grinding?

I'm really sorry that you base your self worth on how hard you worked for a t-shirt in a video game.

It's a game. Have fun or play something else.

Well, Valkurm Emperor sucked, but Wyvernpoacher has a fairly high drop rate.. Probably since the x-bow is rare/ex. But that x-bow was just that awesome and made of win. Well, before S-E decided to destroy the Ranger class.

But I agree, some of them have crappy drop rate. Not sure how many Jaggedy-Eared Jack I killed, never got drop.

It was actually a lot of fun to team up with LS members and go kill out of the way NM's.

And not all items where from NMs, Rajas Ring from beating Promathia. Awesome fight btw.

The quest was way too easy, didn't feel like I earned it, my excitement was crushed like a deflated balloon. The quest to get all the pieces went by way too fast, I was surprised at how easy it was to get everything minus the bp that comes later.
The problem is you're still thinking like FFXI. AF in this game is your starter gear for end game. When you finally get your first Ifrit weapon to drop, you'll feel rewarded for hard work. The token system is like Assault in FFXI and I feel it's a better system then just having the armor random drop from a dungeon.
