    Can fishing make good profit?

So I have been leveling fishing in correspondance to culinary and alchemy since those jobs also utilize fish products. However, after looking at an old Live letter im starting to get kinda iffy on my choice

" However, due to the fact that this system is simple, please understand that you will not be contributing to the economy despite being a Disciple of the Land. The fishing system of FFXIV: ARR is there to have fun challenging and interacting with the nature found throughout Eorzea. " http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...808-23-2013%29

So I want to know if anybody doing fishing has really made any good profit from it?

I haven't made the best profit per say but it's decent. Silver Sharks on my server are not cheap but not expensive. Cool to make a slow profit (1g per bait used)

The problem with fishing is that the bulk of the supply that crafters want are from levels 1-35 and there are lots of people hitting that range now. Thus lots of undercutting has happened and fish that were worth something are now near worthless. In some cases selling for what an npc vendor would pay for it. Once you get past 35, the prices are better, but not much. While there is less competition, there is a lot less variety of craftable fish.

I'm just hoping that they add the treasure map feature soon and eventually added some form of aquarium in player housing so non-craftable and legendary fish have some value. In the meantime, my focus has switched to botany, weaving and alchemy. Weaving seems to be he most profitable (unless selling shards), but also the most costly (unless farming dire webs and fleece, which is always very contested).

I make great money on Lamia. Oysters, coral, cods, sharks sell like crazy but there's tons of profit in fishing out minions. Around 5k per Tiny Tortoise and around 20k for a Gigantpole. I've gone over 300k from marketing purely seafood and all this while spending money on live baits. I've even took time to catch some Northern Pike for a high-end FC that netted me very good money and I make bargain prices. If you have to patience, you can really earn profit from fishing.

I love how they basically said "It's fun, so you won't get any gil".

Basically, we can only get money from boredom.

I find it a hell of a lot more fun that the other gathering classes because I'm not running from node to node just to see percentages. I think anyone who finds fishing in real life fun can relate to it in-game. Not saying you are wrong because we are sharing opinions but just saying it's boring doesn't justify your argument. Elaborate on what you find boring and others just might find it to be fun.

EDIT: I misread what you said. Boredom is profitable must mean bot/min? Fishing is fun but STILL profitable. Still you must elaborate as to why it isn't.

Lvl 50 fisher here. And I love it.
You can make some money out of it... but not much (even Mahi-Mahi, sharks and minions don't cost much anymore), and it's just way, way, WAY less profitable than MNR/BTN.

I have yet to max out the other but they are around the 20s. It just doesn't seem as fun as fishing. I will say this, in terms of easy money, Fishing requires no skill nor does even need to be maxed to earn a decent share of Gil.
