Historically, 4-men parties are a staple of the Final Fantasy series, up until FF VI (and they brought it back in FF IX as well).

I like it, a lot, personally. I hear your concerns, but I think it's a nice design for a Final Fantasy title. It could actually have been 3-men parties if they used the more recent FF designs.
