Played all. Some of them good, other bad.
I have to say that FFXIV is the least Final Fantasyish of them all. I remember back in 1.0 when I created my character. I went "WTF?", when none of the core classes was there. I.e. WHM,BLM,RDM,WAR,THF,MNK. Not only that, it seemed like the producer had no clue what Final Fantasy was all about, that or they tried to make it completely new.
Now they have fixed some, but some of the classes still don't seem like they should to me.
Final Fantasy ruined any chances for me to get any kind of interpersonal relationship ever.
I will be forever thankful for that.
Palom and Porom....I cursed them out. They were so weak. And then....what they did to ....it still gives me chills....they were children.
Own every single FF game.
Played FFXI for nearly a decade.
Played FFXIV 1.0.
Obviously had play ARR as well.![]()
I'm literally only playing because its FF.
I played FF 1,2,3,4,5,6,8 ,Tactics, Tactics Advance, Tactics Advance 2, Crystal chronicles yada yada :P]
8 will always be my personal favourite of the bunch for many reasons I shan't list :P
Overall the I'm finding XIV to be okay, but I wouldn't say it can match up story wise to any of the earlier ones in my opinion, but I wasn't expecting it to, either.
In all honesty XIV as an mmo only really has its crafting different from other mmos out though. Not saying thats a bad thing, mind you!
But the execution on some front's could use a little work(opinion again!)
Started as one of the 'Warriors of Light' on my NES at the ripe young age of 29 and have consumed every named title since. Have spent over a decade in Vana'diel as well.
Although I'm still trying to get adjusted to Eorzea, but that's for another post.
I came to FFXIV because I am a fan, admittedly. I started playing Final Fantasy about 25 years ago. I was 6, and my best friend down the street (we still had those in those days) had been given the cartridge to Final Fantasy; this would be one of our longest stretches without renting a game with our pooled chore money. We played it through to the end, eventually, sharing the same game and only playing it together (which was every afternoon). I became attached to the series then, and continued to play every release since (except FFXIII... I don't have a PS3); to this day FFII (FFXIV) is one of my favorite games. I still have my cartridge with some VERY old games on it.
I began my foray into online games with FFXI, which I began playing on the NA release date (not many kids got their candy that evening, I'm afraid...). That was a treat. I had been looking forward to that game for many, many years. I had first seen mention of it in Playstation Magazine as a concept title (anyone remember the WoW concept video that came with Warcraft II?), with nothing but a single screenshot of a character standing in front of some stairs in what hindsight tells me became San'doria. All that accompanied it was a short blurb saying that Square-Soft was working on an online title with an undetermined ETA. I thought that would be amazing if it was anything like Diablo... Playing with other people?! Out of this world. That picture is burned into my memory from all of the time that I spent staring at it as a kid imagining the possibilities.
I came into FFXIV straight from FFXI, after following all of the pre-release coverage, and then starting in closed-beta. I didn't hate it, but it was clearly not perfect. I saw potential, and was happily rewarded for my perseverance when that potential was realized a year later after copious updates.
Now, here we are. It seems like some of the magic has gone out of the experience. I don't know if it is because I'm getting older, because I follow games through their development and already know everything about them by the time they come out, or a combination of the two. They will always have a special place in my heart. No matter what happens to any title in the future, those old classics will be great, and I'll still play them over and over again.
When the world was young, the Sun bestowed upon me his crown; always will I light your darkest hour.

My reason for thinking FF7 is overrated is because at around the same time, SquareSoft released Xenogears. I think Xenogears blows FF7 completely out of the water in just about every category, but how many people do you see running around Eorzea named Fei instead of Cloud?
I'm a huge FF fanboy, but Xenogears was a life changing experience. Square has referred to FF7 as "the greatest story of all time" in its marketing, but it isn't even close.
