For those wondering where you *can* get iron ingots,they are, alas, crafted only, according to Gamer Escape.

You can get iron something from the Armourer and/or Blacksmith guilds in Limsa.

It might be Ore though.

I think you need level 13 Armourer or level 16 Blacksmith to make iron ingots, so it's not too difficult to obtain.

It's Ore. The guild merchants *never* sell items you can make with the guild's class, only mats the class needs that can't be made by that class, and that only for stuff you need up to about level 15, which is why you can't find an iron ingot at the Carpenters' Guild shop. Ironically (to use an appropriate term), you *can* find the Iron Lance he wants you to make at the Hawthorne Hut, but I don't think he'll take it if your crafter's log doesn't show that you've made one.
