FFXI is on the 360.FFXIV will never be on the 360 or on any system that works with Xbox Live. That's simply because Microsoft has completely closed their policies to companies operating games with an external billing (IE: any MMORPG for which the monthly goes to the developer and not to microsoft themselves) and to any cross platform game.
The closed nature of the Xbox Live policies simply prevents any MMO like FFXIV (or any other external network feature, like the Steam features in portal 2 for instance) to appear on that console.

im nitpicking?
lol the fact is that xbox doesnt do mmos purely cuz they want a cut of the profits for using their network
they made an exception for 11, and most other games that had plans to do it have canceled cuz they dont wanna pay microsoft for the rights to use xbox live to do it.
every other one who has caved, can only be played on xbox live, with other xbox liver players, no cross server compatibility with pc players

I think they would allow pc cross platform due to xbl can hook up with pcs via media sharing (because MS owns windows.) It was more they want mmo on XBL gold not silver. FFXI was the exeption because XBL was newish. and they used it to get customers.im nitpicking?

Assuming FFXIV reaches the status where they can make money off it, of course they'd want to port it to as many systems as possible assuming they meet the spec, and more supported platforms = more players, which for an MMO = longevity and(ideally) more fun. However, the ball is still in all the platform holders' respective courts.
Assuming that the rumors about Project Cafe being more powerful than a 360 are true, then there's no reason to think SE wouldn't consider it as a potential place for the game. They DID have FFXIV planned to hit the 360 after all. Assuming that Nintendo is less worried about pedophile hackers ruining their interwebs this time around, then I wouldn't be surprised if it does happen. Of course if Nintendo sticks with an 8 gig HDD and no possibility for a storage expansion, then the chances of seeing FFXIV on a Nintendo platform might be slim.
In Microsoft's case, they just need to stop being dilholes about what can access their service, how, and when.

FFXI was the exception because it used POL. POL was able to be housed inside XBL's intranet and allowed to tunnel into the XI servers. This let Square keep their servers in their own house and allow them full access to them in the case of maintainence and other issues. It also reduced the Hardware Overhead Costs of running the game on two seperate networks MS Intranet and SE Intranet. Because only the POL software was on MS's side and it had very little hardware impact.
Most other developers say "We'd love to have our MMO on the 360." but then they get to the architecture for the hardware and realize its completely ridiculous the rules MS forces on them.
1. The Players who connect Via XBL and the XBL360 can not play on the same servers as players on PSN and the PS3.
2. Players who connect via XBL can not have access to the outside internet.
3. Players who connect via XBL can not have the ability to circumvent XBL for connectivity.
4. The developer is responsible for the hardware costs of maintaining the server, but the server must be housed in a MS Datacenter to give it access to the XBL Intranet.
5. Updates have to be distributed in a specific format. Updates of a certain size must have a cost value associated purchasable through the Microsoft XBLA storefront.
POL Circumvents these rules as I understand it by the following.
1. The XBL POL Client only connects to XBL POL.
2. POL Doesn't give access to the internet, only internal FFXI content.
3. You have to be on XBL to access POL, (Silver)
4. POL Servers are inside the MS Intranet and tunnel to the XI servers.
5. None of the updates to XI are done on the XBL side of the client but the XI side of the client which is considered segregated.
Ultimately if XIV were to end up on the 360 it would be on POL which SE has already stated they no longer will support new games being developed to the platform.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
