This kind of error happened to me back then at GW2 launch. At beta it was perfectly fine then suddenly a few days after launch, PC start keeping shut down after several minutes of playing it. I'm sure the problem isn't within the game because I could play it fine previously. I asked Support guy over there replied me with canned message etc etc that I didn't read D: PC was less than 1 year, heck maybe 6 months-ish. Fidding around even reinstalling my windows doesn't help. Later on I figure out my Power Supply was defect (Tested it with my friend's unused power supply). Still had the warranty and got it replaced, and finally it worked again.
Your CPU is overheating, not your GPU. If it's not that, then it could be your PSU is at the end of its rope. It could either be your power supply doesn't have enough wattage to handle your GPU under load, or it's dying and not putting out enough power.
CPU overheating usually causes it/the driver to crash and reset, causing the screen to go black for a few seconds. It doesn't generally shut your PC down. CPU overheating, however definitely will cause a shutdown- it's a failsafe to prevent damage.
