It's a source of income in the same way crafting is. You sell to other players, not NPCs (unless 1 gil per gather is awsomesauce for you).
As people stated, the problem with long ass levelling is the amount of materials u gather when levelling making a vast majority of gatherables worth almost nothing...with shards and very few other items being somewhat an exception. So the more ppl level, more worthless everything is. Add in the bots with whom you can't really compete and you have a boring grind. I have a few crafter friends that actively craft and stuff, and the richest one had 14 million on friday (and he only has 1 crafting proffession) and he's not even playing 24/7 or trying very hard anymore. With gathering and the same amount of time spent, I can get a minuscule fraction of that number. Or, yesterday when a friend was crafting me some gears, I found A LOT of items that u can craft and make thousands of gil per basic craft with just AH bought materials (good thing the friend has almost every craft to 50 now heh)...while when checking what gatherables are worth anything decent...well, yeah.
So if they cut the levelling time by let's say 50% and crack down on the bots the gathering market would be in a better shape imo. Sure, u'd still have ppl gathering, but the oversupply coz of levelling wouldn't be such a bummer on the prices.
I tend to rinse out all my leve's on miner.. then do something else.. Looked back yesterday, 99cap again.. time to do more leves on Miner
I think in gathering though, the levelling comes from Leve's and the rest of the time you can gather your money maker which will slowly level you between leves.. if that makes sense
That's not true its actually not a source of income as you gather far too much than is needed and the market has crashed with 99 Gil per stack of 99 Ore, I just spent the last hour farming silver ore got 5 stacks and not even a full level.

There are some profitable items along the way (such as flax, on my server anyway) but you really should just use leves for mining and botany. Then when you're 50 if you need money go get crystals because those will never drop in price. It's super boring but pretty foolproof.


It's honestly pretty repetitive, aside from starred crafts, you can frankly use set in stone macros for everything.
Doing that I'm stil getting 80-90% hq on 40 dura, and lets says 99% on 80 dura items.
A fellow soul! Hello there! I would've chosen fisher or miner for my main, but I didn't know I could lol..No need to apologize for an opinion if not being rude. This is the first MMORPG where I found leveling a traditional DoW type job to be as exciting as watching paint dry (dungeons are ok at first but FATES get so boring/repetitive to me fast) - so I set out on day 1 with the goal of being rich in an MMO for once and I've been having a surprisingly great time taking other people's gil.
I enjoy gathering a whole lot, nice to see some like minded people.

I think it's fine. If you make use of rested xp and the GC scrolls you can level pretty fast. Was only like 2 hours of node grinding to get 500k xp for 49-50. It's just mind numbing.



I use to be happy they made crafting and gathering level up faster than they did in 1.0 (even tho I already have em all at 50), even tho gathering is still slow. Now, I wish they made both gathering and crafting level up just as slow.


The problem with having it take a while to level up gathering classes without leves is that everyone who levels up the same gatherer will have a lot of materials, thus causing a lot more of the same item to flood the market (I'm purposefully ignoring the shards debate).
Faster levelling for DoL's COULD make items more valuable since you'd get less while leveling however it could ALSO make them LESS valuable since they could be gathered more consistently when leveled over them, I think SE got it just about right, but I'd love a boost of attempts per node across the board![]()
