Gil Sellers: Auto-mute characters that have been blacklisted by 25+ characters

If a character/account has been blacklisted by 25 or more accounts in a single zone over a certain finite period of time, say an hour or so, that character should be automagically flagged for immediate review and temporarily blocked from using shout, tells, etc.

That character should receive an in-game mail advising them of their restrictions and that they should wait for contact by a CSR who will review the situation. If the account appears to be a normal account, the CSR should determine if the player was inordinately out of line and offensive, is a gil seller account or was hacked and is being taken advantage of.

Use of shout, /tells to strangers, etc. is a privilege, not a right.

I'm not a database wiz but am pretty sure there would be a way to determine this on a regular basis with batch processes, if not in real time.

That would get abused. Just tell your FC to blacklist someone and that's that..

A better solution is limit /shout and /yell to 1 msg every 5 minutes.

ooooor have GMs in the game that do something. this is a pay to play game and i see no absolutely no support in this game at all. i put in a ticket and they sent me an email saying they threw it out because they got to many and the last patch they launch should of fixed it, which it didn't.

Really not that hard to check its 25 unique users from different Free Companies. Its also possible to code and this is where you get smarter, over time if the same people keep blacklisting people to try and abuse it you ignore them when checking. In the same respect the people that blacklist and only blacklist gil sellers will score more. Its a self managing reputation system and really should be put in to help the players do something about it initially until the GM's have got time to respond. Over time it will become more accurate and stupidly when players want to help with this sort of thing you really should as its a no brainer for any company to cut down workload and make customers happy at the same time.

There is 60? servers bearing in mind multiple locations the GM's would have to monitor. So 1 GM realistically per server so they can monitor all locations, for an 8 hour work day 3 people per server. That's 180 people employed per day. Lets pay them $8 an hour so $480 per hour being shelled out or roughly $350,000 per month. Bearing in mind all the additional costs of desks computers and other staff admin costs, you can likely double that. Personally I'd rather they spent the money on developers and wrote smarter code to deal with the issue and hired a few GM's to review and ban appropriately.

WTB a shout throttling system if you pass x amount of shouts in y amount of time, as well as a right click > report for spam with auto blacklist feature and no cap on the blacklist...

or even better, right click report spam, the text that was reported at the time is saved and sent to SE for review.

A solution might be if someone posts the same/similar message x amount of times in a short space of time they should get a temp chat ban for like 30 mins or so. Yes I can see the problems arising with this, rmt will limit shouts (but hey! Your chat box won't look like a roulette machine anymore) and players spamming parties might trigger this but tbh I'm sick fed up seeing player x look for 1 tank for hydra spammed just as badly as rmt bots over my shout chat -.-

this is a great, workable idea, and far better than any solution any one has come up with before.

Not only does it help stop gil spammers, but on top of that it helps the community regulate its self, reducing the overarching need of GMs. Say for example you just have a nuisance character who keeps spamming stuff, enough people BL him in a short period of time, problem solved. He tries to repeat it, repeal is reviewed, found is he was spouting some racist stuff or something, and the account gets banned.
