Gathering jobs levels kind of slow?

I really had no issues with battle and crafting leveling speed seems like a decent rate. However all 3 gathering classes seem very slow to level in comparison.

Do you think the gathering classes need an exp buff?

The speed of gathering actually kind of torpedoed the ore market. It is like if everyone that had a gathering class was a bot farmer given the amount of ore you accumulate when leveling.

Gathering classes level just fine. It all comes down to you know how to make the most out of your time spent on it. Leves being the best option typically, but it can still go very fast if you're efficient with your gathering.

Well, there's eight battlecraft classes. There's eight tradecraft classes. But there's only three fieldcraft classes. So it makes sense that it would level slower--you've got less than half as much to level.

I would leave fishing out of that, because it levels ridiculously fast. I went from 38 to 41 in about an hour doing I think 3 leves in between turning in HQ fish. If you manage to gain a decent HQ rate (perception ist your friend) you get 10k exp per HQ fish, normal ones being at 2 to 2.5k.
I agree with botany and mining being pretty slow though, but leves do speed them up as well.

Tradecrafts level absurdly fast through leves and hardly require that much gathered materials to level. One single level of purely mining say mythril is more than enough to level one or two DoH classes. The amount of mythril that my GSM utilized to craft Mythril Earrings for the observatory leve for level 40-50 probably wouldn't even earn me half a level in mining.

Leves make you level pretty fast. When you hit 40, you get 15k exp leves. When you hit 45, these turn into 20-25k leves. Plus, you still get EXP for striking nodes, upwards of 500 per hit and chaining into a thousand +, so this isn't exactly minor. Killing mobs doesn't have this much efficiency. Yes, you have to work at it, and so it's not as careless as Flash-spam, BlizzardII-spam in FATE hordes. Maybe -- just maybe -- that's a good thing.

That's the problem, higher level mining is hardly worth the effort when lower level mining nearly caps the profit potential. I ditched my level 50 miner weeks ago and just bought the electrum ore and wind shards to make the accessories. It takes 3 CM runs to spiritbond 5 items where there is a good chance that just one of the materias will out earn the 1.5 hours of gathering. That isn't even taking in account of the crafting philo items that go for 40k each (that you nearly get one per CM run) after you get your DL gear. The effort to reward ratio just isn't there and I blame the absolute saturation of the market due to slow leveling as being a major factor.

    It's already too fast imo.

The gathering classes are the bread and butter for crafters, at least for us not starting out as legacy with millions of gil to spend.
It should take some work to level them. I like the current pace. It feels like you're actually achieving something, unlike combat classes which is a joke atm due to FATEs.
