There is also a thread with almost 80k views and over 1000 people posting the same issue.
Then open a console and tracert the server IP and see where it takes more ms to reply. If it's outside of SE's datacenter it's not like they can raid other companies if these don't fix their own issues. The only option is to move the datacenter but even then someone will complain because the route tables will be fixed for you but broken for someone else.

Ok, so did the traceroute just now after being unable to login as usual in the daytime, still shows nothing. Game issue.

Ping and traceroutes are ICMP traffic (Internet Control Message Protocol), it's small amounts of data and it's only designed for relaying information about certain things, you can't send general traffic down it and as such ICMP is never altered (blocking certain ICMP protocols from working yes, but slowing down/changing/altering in other ways no - It either works or it doesn't).

The game itself, like most Internet traffic, is using TCP and UDP packets. I can see that you're repeatedly blaming SE, but like others have said above, this is 100% your Internet provider. SE don't control how your bandwidth is managed/limited, your Internet provider does.

I appreciate you've said you've spoken to your Internet provider and they've said they aren't doing any throttling so I'd recommend getting hold of the agreement for your Internet connection. Most likely somewhere in there there is a part about traffic shaping which is what this is falling under. They might not be specifically throttling your connection, but as part of their bigger traffic management it's doing that as part of your package.

Traceroute still uses a very small packet size. What you need to do is be able to get in game and run a program like Wireshark to see more detailed information on the packet sizes the game sends and receives, and look for SYN errors. (the default UI settings in Wireshark show these as red/black packets) You can expand these packets and send them to your ISP to see if they can determine the issue.

Like I said, if that was the issue I surely would have noticed it somewhere else. I have a roommate as well, and between the two of us there is always someone online. We both are very big into all forms of media (music, movies, games) and have had absolutely no throttling on our downloads, streams, torrents, etc. This game is the sole issue as far as connectivity problems.

The issue is that getting into the game when it is giving me these problems is nearly impossible, it could take me over an hour of just restarting the game over and over just for "start" to not be grayed out. Then, it will give me a 90K error when I pick my character. A few more hours of trying after that if I get lucky and it lets me on I will have the lag issues. The game is totally playable past midnight up until about the sun comes up, but for obvious reasons that doesn't really work for my schedule.

    step up SE

I have the same issue, much so. the game spikes so hard it's unbearable. I find it surprising for a game that suffered such a defeat with 1.0 have not found a way to beat something as simple as latency issues. there are currently more than 1 milion players running FFXIV ARR and i refuse to pay subscription until the issue is resolved. i believe more people will think like me. i dont buy a broken car, why would i buy a broken game?

SE needs to step up, its been going like this since launch and tbh im sick and tired of it.

i know they have a thread up where we're supposed to jot down our ISP etc etc. well... you have about 1000 people whos done it so far. you should have taken steps towards fixing it. aswell as giving the cusotmers some matter of feedback as to where you are in the process!

Not really, when an ISP filters traffic it will use rules on what/how to filter. For whatever reason this game is triggering on their rules and you're getting the degraded performance.

Which also suggests that it's your ISP doing it and that past midnight they don't care/no need for the traffic to be filtered. It's pretty standard for ISPs to only filter traffic during busy/peak hours.

I'm sure you're going to reply back once again saying that it's SEs fault, but what exactly would you like them to do? Unless they actually supply your Internet connection, they cannot guarantee you any sort of quality of service, that's down to your Internet Service Provider. It's obviously not a service issue their end as the rest of us with truely unfiltered connections aren't having any problems.

Who is your ISP? Probably searching the forums here for that ISP will highlight other people with that same provider having the same problems.

They can't fix it, it's not their causing it. All they can do is notify those Internet Providers and give them any information that's requested. It's down to those providers to actually fix their filtering, IF they want to.

That's a pretty silly thing to say considering every single major ISP is already listed in the 1100 post sticky topic at the top of this forum subsection. I'm sure that you will continue white knighting SE in regards to this issue on this or other topics because people who are unaffected by an issue are quick to dismiss it. The issue started for me the day I paid my sub fee, not sure if that has anything to do with it but I wouldn't be surprised if it did (limiting certain incoming connections to their servers to let others have solid ones to boost subscription rates for when the 30 day users time is up, perhaps.) In most cases I'm not getting degraded performance (in FFXIV,) the game server is flat out refusing to initiate my connection at all once I start it up. If an ISP was filtering my traffic I would have noticed it in the obvious common filtered things; torrents. My torrent speeds are consistently 5MB/s. No ISP would specifically only filter one video game, because that is ridiculously stupid. A server that is over capacity would refuse connections though.

After looking over your posts, Neil, I am going to assume that you're one of the NA forum moderators and this is your game character account so you don't just go putting mod posts everywhere. That, or you just really love acting like SE support.
