Problem is the 300ms position polling. Don't know why they thought something this slow would be ok for creating content like titan. It's like being given a steak to eat and only have a butter knife to cut it with. A very dull butter knife.

Seems more like a spoon at this point.
Really late to the discussion here, but I suffered from the exact same latency issues described here. I'd get hit by most red AoEs well after I already moved out of them.
However, by reducing the game's resolution (tho I don't get why overlay/font size needs to be tied to that, it's never been in any other game I played), the latency and lag has since become more tolerable. I've been able to avoid the pain much more reliably, even tho the game's a lot uglier to look at now.
Likely not a concrete solution, but it might help alleviate the issues many of you are having. Hope this helps~

Having played LOTRO where they closed the EU data centre and moved the servers to NA, it was actually very noticeable. My ping went from about 50-60 to around 120-150, which on the face of things was not a problem, after all it was not an FPS & 120-150 ping is fine, in theory, however what became apparent is that the performance when having to connect to NA was less stable, less consistent, so people got more lag spikes, larger lag spikes and sometimes packet loss, in all it was very noticeable.
It was also significantly worse for those that lived in less favourable countries for connecting to NA, I live in the UK so was lucky in that regard, however we had people in our guild that were from places like Poland, Russia, etc and it was very noticeable that they were impacted more by the server move, to the point many simply quit the game.
I will try again, for the last time... There's over 70 pages to check for INFINITE information, if people still can't see the problem, then I'll start to believe maybe the devs are in the same sac.Having played LOTRO where they closed the EU data centre and moved the servers to NA, it was actually very noticeable. Quoting myself:
Rephrasing with more evident hints:Other games having EU servers and you having low pings, doesn't imply that the low ping to the other game's EU dataservers is the reason for no delay.
It IS true that EU datacentres would help, but this comes AFTER.
Having new Datacentres is probably 5% of the real and serious issue going on in here. Yes, it would help, but you would not notice it, trust me.
1) Going from 200-300 ping to 50-100 -> Noticeable
2) Fixing server lag -> Noticeable
Now let's combine them
Fixing 1 and not 2 -> Noticeable
Fixing 2 and not 1 -> Noticeable
Fixing 1 and 2 -> Noticeable
And I would have liked to make the last two font sizes closer in size, and the first even smaller.
You are claiming that fixing datacentre also comes with other line quality advantages such as removal of lagspikes, etc.
There's ping, there's speed, and then there's line quality; the quality of the line that links us (anyone, be it from overseas or not, and talking about the common links, not specific ISP stuff, if your ISP sucks in general, it will obviously suck with FFXIV too) is pretty decent from what we have collected, and no one in the representative group is suffering from lagspikes (leaving apart guys affected by specific ISP throttling, etc. - I'm sorry for those issues as well, you got my support).
Even if the servers are moved to your city, you will still have game inconsistencies due to the network, you will see people stuttering/sliding when running around, you will see people "eating" AEs but having dodge them, you will see people dying to AEs then moving the corpse in a post-death miracle, your heals will still land when the tank is dead, and you will still hear the +LB bonus when this happens.
For the last time: People complaining about PING, you're talking about something completely different from what people in this thread is complaining! (and I state this assuming there is no other major issues in check, such as weird ISP management, weird client status, etc.) - We're talking about GAME DESIGN (mostly from a network perspective).

Hey guys, I'm up to 7 likes! And one of them was shamefully me. If we can get 187 more it'll be most liked comment on the picture which everyone will see every time they repost the advertisement to their fans.For anyone wanting to take this issue to their social media, FFXIV keeps reposting the same "Buy what IGN calls a great MMORPG!" stuff on their Facebook as a highlight. I've made the following comment:
"Jesse David Great game. AWFUL NET CODE. Don't expect anything sort of snappy game play from this MMO. Dodging AOE and using instant cast abilities in this game are years behind the other MMOs on the market." · September 19 at 8:06am
Here's the link to advertisement I'm talking about:
