Thank god he's working on XI and has given us a ton of amazing content this year. (My favorite was the new mog sack!)I wish XIV had something new in it too but all the new management seems to be doing is trying to ape other MMOs. oh well time will tell.

In terms of "who is the creator of something", director > producer

I would love to see what Tanaka could create if he was given complete control over a game's development. He has good vision and given the right amount of time and resources I'd bet he could make a game that would blow even Squaresoft FFs out of the water.
It's not (entirely) Tanaka's fault that XIV ended up this way. Practically every SE game in the last few years has been a flop, so I can only assume that something within SE is severely broken.
And for the 100th time :
HE
STILL
WORKS
AT
SE

Taking from Wada's address to the Investor Briefing regarding the 12 billion yen fiscal loss regarding game development in company.
In short, the buck stopped with Tanaka, although one could read into that phrase that the work outsourced to other markets did exactly what was asked of them and nothing more, perhaps something the Japanese could not plan for as their culture and work ethic is to always go the extra step?Wada attributed the poor state of development to weak communication. Creative leads did not pass on his opinion to their subordinates. Additionally, there was trouble with division of labor amongst technical staff, who were protective and would fulfill only their own roles.
We'll probably never know.

A thread appreciating the man who single handedly ensured this game was a failure. Keep on trucking white knights.

I dunno about that...

Don't worry about it, haters will hate.

I still wish Tanaka's vision for the game will be implemented, even under the new team. And yes...Tanaka did NOT get fired, from SE or from a cannon. Stop thinking that he got kicked out on his rump or got murdered by cute bunnies because he got the game out in such a condition. All he did was step down from his position and go back to doing something else in SE.
Sorry, but no. Tanaka had some pretty crazy and unrealistic dreams for the game (seriously, the market ward thing he told us about prior to launch where players go to bargain was just never going to happen, as someone who'd developed MMOs for 10 years prior he should know what players are like).
