Can someone tell me why some people are nostalgic about XIV(the original)? That game was dreadful, how the hell anyone could've liked that hell spawn of an MMO is beyond me.

No, because FFXIV 1.0 is still the same game as FFXIV ARR. Just tweaked mechanics. But they are both XIV.

Did you play 1.0 in the last few months before it finished the story line? If not, why are you talking? For people who actually played through to the end, FFXIV has been three games, not two. FFXIV launch, FFXIV 1.0 (last year of 1.0) and FFXIV ARR. All three are very different from each other and 1.0 was a lot of fun to play.

Very different would have been different races, classes, cities, jobs, models, items etc...

What we have here is a case of slightly different.
