What is RMT?

RMT stands for Real Money Trading. Essentially it's the buying and selling of gil/desirable items for real money.

Why is RMT bad?

1. It gives an unfair advantage to players who have/are willing to spend real money on the game.
2. It harms the in-game economy.

Why shouldn't I participate in RMT?

1. Participation in RMT violates SE's ToS. You can and WILL get banned. See this
2. Visiting any website involved in RMT WILL result in malware/keyloggers being installed in your computer. The primary source of gil for the RMT companies ironically comes from the hacked accounts of the would-be customers who visit their sites.
3. Encouraging the RMT increases the already out of control spam that is plaguing the shout channels in every major city.

How do I QUICKLY deal with the RMT/Gil Seller shout/tell spam?

1. Simply type /blist add "characternamehere"
2. Remember, you can copy and paste names found in the chat box by highlighting desired text with the mouse. This is one of the few MMOs that allows that in their interface.

What can I do to combat RMT?

1. Don't participate in it!
2. Report any RMT spammers using either the report cheating function found under the active help menu in-game or open a ticket using the Ask a Question function. Remember to include the character name and copy+paste their spam message!

Okay, I agree with your cause and all, but at least provide disclaimers when the information you are giving out should really only be considered as half-truths.

Simply going to EVERY website that does RMT does NOT automatically install malware and keyloggers onto your computer. There are about as many RMT websites that have malware/keyloggers as fan websites that offer "leveling tips and gear guides" for classes. In other words, the PEBDAC is the usual cause of malware/keyloggers getting installed onto said PEBDAC's computer, and not necessarily the "type of website" they are visiting. Yes, many have malicious intent, but that malicious intent also requires the PEBDAC to manually click something to install something, type in a password, create an account there, or a hundred other things that are really no-brainers when it comes to keeping your computer secure.

Educating people as to how to avoid getting malware installed onto their computers is perhaps a better approach than sending out blanket alerts that really don't get the message across. For instance: this post you put up includes an embedded link, behind the words, "See this". This is, perhaps, the #1 way people accidentally get malware/keyloggers installed on their computers. Someone posts a seemingly-harmless message on a popular message board, with a "helpful" link, which is really just a trojan horse that sends unsuspecting people to a website which uses some java trick to install unwanted malware.

The target audience who reads, "all RMT websites automatically install malware/keyloggers" and believes such a blanket statement to be true without further explanation, are the same target audience who unwittingly - and blindly - click embedded links in message board posts without realizing they should check the link's target first, and unknowingly get malware/keyloggers installed on their computer.

I support RMT if Square Enix is the seller.
I literally have no clue why they have a "crystal" service in place, but they don't use it for other features.
Why couldn't they sell the Fanstia potion for real money, and allow the buyer to resell it to the market for gil?
I hope when they add vanity slots, they will allow the players to buy it and resell it back to the market.

There is no money creation at all, everything is a transfer of wealth in this system.
From the players who plays a lot of the game to the people who doesn't care enough to play extended amount of time.
Everything is a wash.
