I don't know to be honest. It seems to be there's just as many bad apples among the 'veterans', as there is among whatever name you label this other group. Condescending, insulting and rude at every turn possible.
It happens everywhere when people aren't being held responsible for their actions, same was in SWTOR.
It just takes difference forms, this board people really seem to think they are a bit better and once the sub kicks in all the 'bad' people leave.
But they just seem to lack the capability to understand that this is also toxic behaviour.
Taking WOW NA/EU board as an example, you don't see it there all that much.
Not because the WOW community is any better, but you just get banned for a long time if you do it.
Thus behaving with in the set rules is considered as acceptable by the community that or don't go to the forums.
It doesn't matter if you insult out of trolling/bad day/feeling superior/being an upset fan it all falls under the same, you broke the rule.
If SE would just deal with people on the forums like this and give
1: Warning + 3 days ban.
2: Ban 2 weeks
3: permanent forum ban
You would have a much better forum community with in 2 months.
The problem is that they didn't enforce these rules right away so you get this.

I've played DAoC too, and it had an amazing community.
Also, LotRO community was fantastic.
This game's community is one of the worst I've ever seen.
Which is kinda weird, because in beta everyone was nice and helpful.

No, and neither did 1.0, nor did FFXI for that matter. Where did you ever get that idea? No really, I'm curious. Maybe from linkshell to linkshell, but you have the same degenerate, socially awkward 30 something-year-olds and immature teenagers roaming all around the place, the perverts, the pyros, the mentally unstable elitists, the disgruntled military vets, and everything in between that you'd hate to interact with in real life. But then you have pockets of decent human beings who still understand that this is an MMO and being online doesn't remove you from the social contract, and they make the playing that much more fun.
Now is the community BETTER than any other game? Well I haven't had too many negative experiences because I guard myself well, but I've met some fine folks. Mileage will vary though, and I'll never say the community is objectively "nice" or "good".

It was all nice until the Wow people plaque this game either waiting for their expansion and or tired of that game. I quit that Game a long time ago because of how immature some of this people are either when you kill them in PvP or Dungeon with them.

I have seen several toxic members of the community and i feel bad for the ones that constantly run into them but within a month or two most of the constant nerd rages will move on to a new game and we will be left with what hopefully resembles past FF communitys
The community is great till you get to the dungeons where you need to run them many times. Early dungeons dying a little is fine as long as the dungeon gets finished. End game dungeons if you are taking too long to finish some people see it as a waste of time.
It really depends, there are always the bad apples ofc..
But for the biggest part, Ive met a lot of nice people
The only time I really had any problems with people, is on Titan. People got butthurt because bads queued up on a regular basis. Welcome to the internet imo.

You won't be able to gauge the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn community in game until we are past the cut-off date for free trials, and the initial swell of people dies down.
You won't be able to gauge the Forum community for ARR until 30 days after that point, when forum permissions are locked out for those who haven't logged in for that long.
So you're looking at about November before it starts becoming time to make calls on the community.
Some will always call it best. Some will always call it worst.
All I know is that I'll be calling it home for a good long while regardless.
