This: People who 'buy' runs are doing so mostly to circumvent 'needing a set group' or are unwilling to wait for friends to catch up to them. But with the way coil progression/lockouts work...the coil isn't exactly 'PUG' friendly, and this is without taking into account it's actual difficulty.
Currently, my FC is still clearing people through First-3rdish relics. (Main team had theirs/got theirs a couple weeks ago). Once we get 2 teams geared and ready, we're tackling the coil.
In the last month of 1.0, people were selling Nael Hardmode wins...I could kinda understand this.
1. Game was dying
2. If you didn't get clear pre. final save, you couldn't keep the earrings
3. The reward was nice
I wanted to beat him SOOOOO bad. But my LS mates were working on relic, and didn't want to spend time on him. Finally, 2 weeks before save, I convinced them to go give him a try. I did every single 'training' battle. I made all the food/lunar curtains we needed. I studied strats to help them out. I PUG'd it to practice. Then, Hurricane Sandy happened. I DC'd the 2 nights before the final save due to the storm and only got back online hours before the save. My Linkshell got the clear without me...and instead of running the 'clear' group again with me...they had me run with the 'ppl who still needed' Because time was running out and others wanted the goods. I had to re-teach a brand new team, and never made the save cut. My server knew what happened. People selling runs, who had seen me dutifully crafting/pugging away knew what happened. When I came out of the last attempt standing, they asked if we won... I said 'No timed out and that was the final attempt my LS could do' I was horribly sad...very sad. I knew it wasn't my fault we didn't win. (we were all alive DPS was too low...typically was our problem) I knew it wasn't fair or right that after all the time/effort my LS didn't log in and have the team I taught the mechanics too/healed every day help me. But even then, I DID NOT stoop to pay for a win....and the people I could have paid were right there. It would have been easy to ask. But, I wanted to win because my team, and I were good enough. I wanted to win with friends...and I wanted them to know we were good enough to do it by ourselves...without relics and full darklight.
But the current battles/relics etc. are nothing like this. There is no 'must do by date'. Who really cares if you get your first relic tonight or 3 weeks from now? It doesn't make the game more or less enjoyable. What DOES matter is the team you do it with. That you take care of eachother, work together and grow. And that is way more important than a shiny new weapon.
But back to the people who buy wins:
None of them are really buying wins. They are buying 'friends' which is sadder. Join a FC form a static...don't buy your runs, it solves your short-term problem, but then what?
